Yes, and this too:

Louie wrongly claims that there is no compressive force on the spine, seemingly because the spine isn’t being compressed from top to bottom like it would be if you were upright with a load on your back or in your arms. I’m no expert in biomechanics and apparently Louie isn’t either, but McGill certainly is and he says that you are subjecting the spine to high compressive forces in a flexed position, as well as shear forces which are even worse.

Now you could use the reverse hyper in a spine-friendly manner which would involve not allowing any spinal movement and only moving at the hips. That would require less weight and a slower, controlled movement unlike the swinging that Louie recommends. And that could be a useful exercise, I know of a few people who use that, but it’s not really a back rehab exercise and I don’t see why it would be any better than other hip hinge exercises like back raises or RDLs for example.

How is your back doing anyway? Seems weird that you aren’t healed up by now, it didn’t sound like anything too serious to begin with. The one time I seriously fucked my back up I was back to normal in about a month and a half, and it was real bad at first. Sitting, standing, and laying down all hurt, I could barely move and when I was driving every bump in the road felt like a stab in my back. The first week was constant pain.

What do you do outside of training? Sitting a lot can make it worse. Do the McGill Big 3 every day and look into his other rehab protocols. There isn’t anyone better to follow for back issues than him.

Back is doing better by every measure. Maybe I’m too cautious but I’ll take at least another two weeks and put the affected movements back in.

Single leg stuff is handy. My left glute is < that my right and apparently I got a weak glutes v legs pattern squat anyways so taking the opportunity to work on those areas

Outside of the gym I do back rehab stuff and try to change positions often because I’m a student so sitting at a desk is a frequent one.

Glad to hear the back is better. You’ve been really disciplined with your rehab

Ya not really. I’m just the personality type to not back off so if I’m gonna do it then it needs to be a bit overkill on the chill

Tbh I don’t mind the time off. My upper body is probably as jacked as it’s ever been so there’s that. Gotta get beach ready for the holiday.

Bench not feeling super hot but moved as well as last week maybe a bit better with a bit more weight so going in the right direction. Focusing on keeping the weight in and pushing through the base of my palm and it’s paying off well.

Extra lower body padding on for today’s belt squats to protect me from the harness putting pressure on my hips (I think lol it’s just painful and uncomfy). The belt squat movement itself isn’t exactly a squat movement for me I feel it’s between a squat and deadlift. Maybe a straight vertical belt squat would be more akin to my squat style.

Sumo belt squat feels much more natural just need to focus on going deep enough to carryover. Bit awkward to get the right foot placement with the load over mid foot too to avoid getting pulled forwards and backwards

The Man says (3:00-5:00) to put your weight on the sides of your feet, push your knees out and sit back.

Went to gym nemesis’ b-day this weekend. Coincidentally over ate a bit lol. Told him that will keep on lifting and building back up and we’ll see what happens by late August. If I’m feeling alright might go to the meet anyways and hit some easy lifts pretty to get the experience and something to build on for future.
