GuineaPig’s Training Log - Hunt 300 Deadlift

I’d just wanna be sure I can do a good job and do right by the students. I used to be a smart cookie when I was in high school but I think I’ve gone down hill gradually since.

Your depth of knowledge doesn’t matter mate, it’s how it’s delivered and received. Kids will always be able to teach you something else about what they’re learning too, so lessons always go off on tangents that aren’t planned for and out of your knowledge base, the unknown is what make it interesting. No 2 days are the same, even the same and similar lessons, gotta keep that shit interesting.

What year levels would you wanna teach?

I’ve not thought at length on it. I think I’d tend towards the older year levels. There’s probably both pros and cons to any age group. I’d have to think on it more

Lower body session today. High bar squats feeling awkward on the back and tough on the lower body but no back pain/issues. Bar path just a little (actually a lot) fucked lol. Needed to experiment a bit to make it feel half decent. My butt is burning a lot afterwards at least. A good burn I think

Deadlifts feeling foreign. No pain with the movement but feel weak and uncomfortable to get in the positions. Might have something to do with the glute burn from squats.

Just moved today with <50% 1RM on the bar. Feels strange maybe like my glutes are inhibited or not activating right. Was hoping for better today. Anyways I moved at least so gotta build on that. Might try some block pulls next time see if I can actually feel like a proper deadlift and engage my glutes and posterior chain properly again.

Not very encouraging. Feelsbadman

High Bar Squat 4 Sets x Reps @ 105kg
Sumo Deadlift Technique Sets x Reps
Weighted Back Raises 3 Sets
Chest Supported Row 5 Sets

Have you had it checked?

Haven’t squatted in a while, everything feels weird and you still look better than me :joy:
Good to see you getting better.

On the mend man. Good luck with the recovery

Back wasn’t feeling too good today. Also pretty tired overall. Hit a solid set of bench at 90kg and didn’t really feel like it today even though weight was moving well.

Not squatting in a while :scream: might as well wheel out the lethal injection!

Not only that, he missed deadlift too. We should probably have put him down.

Back seems to have flared back up today now unfortunately. Not quite sure what to make of this or where to go from here. Gonna at least give it some time to see if it settles quick

I checked some things not gonna be able to do this on private health insurance. Medicare (the Australian universal public health insurance for you guys in freedom land) only partly covers you for GP diagnosed chronic conditions so > 3 months apparently. So straight physio with no coverage comes out at about $100 bucks a pop. Bit much for me right now. Maybe if the course of the injuries goes worse and worse than maybe.

Maybe at worst it’s time to go back full circle to when I started lifting: upper body only skipping legs bro stuff and get jacked af while i do what I can for my back and waiting it out. I got into the gym to look jacked and it’s always been an end goal. Might even touch a pressing machine for the first time in forever

Sorry to hear about your back Hamster.

How does it hurt/where does it hurt/when does it hurt?

If you can’t see a pro at this time maybe we can help you out a bit.

Have you seen your doctor? maybe he knows a bit about physiology?

Were you able to identify a specific cause?

My back flaired up again this morning. It was super tight and has only loosened up a little as the day progresses. It is raining and cloudy here today so weather may have something to do with it. I do plan to continue doing light squats when I go back to the gym this afternoon. Yesterday I walked 10 min and skipped the ice/heat pump. I also quit my cbd and rub cream.

Hang in there. The back takes time to heal.

It’s a shame about your back mate. I thought being a student on a limited income you would be covered for pretty much anything through Medicare?

In the mean time you can go for that 315 bench brah. Just kidding. Be patient and you’ll be back in no time. A chiro might be pricey but worth looking into?

Did it hurt while you were lifting?

You kept everything very light so I am assuming there was no major technique breakdown like rounding over. There is a good chance that this is all related to muscles and is not an actual spinal injury. Stretch your hip flexors and do some myofascial release work on your psoas and quadratus lumborum, this is likely to help and at worst won’t do anything to make your back hurt more.

I have had my back cramp up a few times due to tight QL and psoas, once you loosen them up the pain is either totally gone or much less severe but it can come back shortly after. You just have to keep working on those muscles and avoid getting stuck in anterior pelvic tilt, which is what those muscles will do when they are too tight.

Most regular doctors are useless for back injuries, all the can do is give you drugs or operate. Read stuff by Stuart McGill. If your back is seriously fucked then buy his book called “Back Mechanic”, it will give you a whole bunch of info on how to fix this.

I’d actually agree with you on the doctors and back thing unless if the doctor is rehab med or sports med. Back and spine is quite a tricky thing for most
