Real answer: almost any RPG on the SNES. Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, the FF games… Crystalis on the NES is still playable IMO. These obviously weren’t guilty pleasures when they were introduced, I think they were all well received (especially Chrono Trigger), but the fact that I still re-play these qualifies I think.
Dude! Yes yes and so yes on all of those!

I actually just finished a bout of Mario RPG and started Chrono Trigger on my SNES. And you forgot Earthbound! Possibly the single greatest rpg of that entire era next to Chrono.

Did I mention I have all the old Nintendo systems from the original NES to the 64? Yup.

To the poster who said he was playing Chrono on a console port–good for you! Badass game, and super groundbreaking for its time as well. But it still won’t match playing it on the system itself, if you can find a cartridge. Those things are rarer than gold and worth about as much. NOBODY sells that game. Ever.

Omg super Mario rpg and the legend of the 7 stars?!??!?!??!
that’d be the one. an extremely underrated game. tons of depth.
I can’t believe how underrated it was. I bought that thing SO fast! Mindblowing graphics for the SNES console period, and a fucking fantastic plot, with great play controls and and great characters, and great everything. Fucking awesome game.

I dunno if this counts as a guilty pleasure, since it’s awesome. But I spent countless hours on Tetris Attack with yoshi.

I’ve got NES through Wii, plus an atari, a sega, PS2, and… wait for it… a PANASONIC 3D0. I think that’s everything. 50+ games for each, aside from the 3D0. I don’t think they made 50 games on that shit. SNES and N64 alternate as my favorite systems. Some incredible games on both. 4 player multiplayer, specifically on Goldeneye and Mario Kart, is unbeatable.

Also, I thought of the ultimate guilty pleasure game. A mini game on Pokemon Stadium, called Sushi-go-round. I can play that shit for hours. Anybody else familiar?

Well people are listing legit games such as Mass Effect which is in no way shape or form a guilty pleasure, unless you choose to bang the dudes!

God that game was awful.

Although I did play it a lot :(
I’m gonna play it tonight after bringing it up lol, the multiplayer just seems to do it for me.

I hope you consider my 2 games non “guilty pleasures”.

I still play those games. My original Nintendo still works, so I play Final Fantasy I about once or twice a year, and my original Xbox still works. I guess I could play the KOTAR on my Xbox 360, but I dont.

If you think they are “guilty pleasures” then I win.
You mean KOTOR 1 and 2? If so, those games are some of the best western RPG’s ever made and laid the ground work for such incredible series as Mass Effect. No shame in that.

Also, FF1 is so damn underrated. I own the version that came on the FF Origins disc for PSX, and thats the only version ive ever played, but its a ton of fun. You just have to deal with some frustrating moments of trying to figure out where the hell you need to go.
They have it on PSX? They need to come out with all the FF on one disk or a compilation of a few disks. I would play that all the way through over and over again.

That would be FF6 actually. The actual FF3 just wasnt released in the west until later, so originally in the west, ff6 was ff3.

UFC Tapout for Xbox, usually as myself via customized character. When else am I going to beat the hell out of Tito Ortiz, Bas Rutten, and Chuck Liddell?

Flipcollar don’t forget perfect dark!!!

This thread is too stimulating for me…

Updated versions of FF1 and FF2 were released in a compilation for psx called FF Origins. Updated graphics and shit too.

In case you werent aware, FF4, 5, 6 and chrono trigger were all released on compilations together as well for the psx, called FF anthology and FF chronicles. I own em all, the only one never released on psx was ff3. (which is also great, the remake for android is fantastic)

yea yea everyone knows that. it’s easier to just use the US terminology. Speaking of US versions, I know FF mystic quest was destroyed by critics… but I kinda liked it.

I always named Sabin after myself when I played FF3/6. He was so fucking great.
As far as stories, I tend to prefer FF2 over FF3. Every time I lose Tellah, Yang, and the twins, I get choked up. Edward “The Spoony Bard”… not so much.

No way you cant use the north american titles, they are false dammit!

I honestly thought that FF6 was not nearly as good as it was hyped to be. At the time it came out, i can see the argument that it was the greatest ever RPG (except for maybe Chrono Trigger) but i thought every FF on psx just blew it out of the water in terms of characters, story, development, gameplay, and presentation.

N64 I play a ton of Super Smash Bros, but guilty pleasures are probably Vigilante 8, Bomberman, and Buck Bumble lol. Good call on Perfect Dark

On Sega Genesis the Power Rangers fighting game and Eternal Champions (knock off of Mortal Kombat). Also this game called Wonder Boy, which for me is as fun as the NES Legend Of Zelda games.

I haven’t played enough of the recent FF games to argue against that, I stopped at 8 I think. 7 and 8 were definitely awesome. I tried to get into a more recent one (11 maybe?) a few years ago, and I just don’t have the time in my life anymore for such an involved video game. The only reason I can still play the old RPG’s is because I can go 2 months in between game-play sessions and remember exactly where I am because I’ve played the games so many times.
