Guilty Pleasure Games

I know there are a lot of gamers around here, this idea popped into my head after reading a shockingly good review from IGN for Dynasty Warriors 8 today;

What are some of your “guilty pleasure” games? The ones you dont bother to talk about with your friends cause they wont understand, and many gamers would seriously question your sanity if they knew just how many countless hours you’ve spent playing over and over again? Everybody’s got 'em, ill start;

As mentioned, Dynasty Warriors. Ive played every one since DN3, and have probably logged hundreds of hours on DN4 and DN6 alone. Dont know what it is, i just love cutting through legions of generic asian foot soldiers as the mighty officers of the Shu kingdom. Cant get enough.

Another one that is sort of on the fence is Final Fantasy X-2. I know it was critically well-received, but it seems to be so hated on by fans of the series for its bubbly feel at times, more personal story and female cast, but i honestly thought that game was right up there with FFX and have played through it several times. Looking forward to doing it again in HD later this year.

So, now’s the time to finally be able to gush about some of your more questionable favorite games. Lets hear 'em.

Tiger Woods Golf

Portal 1 and 2

Shinning Force & Shinning Force II on the Sega Genesis. I put some time in on those 2. I even have SF I on my Ipod Touch.

No guilt but very pleasurable:

Fb scrabble
Plants vs zombies

Are the Portal games considered “guilty” pleasures though? I never played them but i thought the general consensus by both fans and critics alike was that they were great.

Angry Birds and God of War.

Also Wii Sports with my 4 year old son, who is literally a Wii bowling prodigy and unbeatable by anyone I know. Typical score in the 200s. And if you saw his technique you’d probably start to sympathize with the French Existentialists just a little bit, because after you see it, and watch him get a “Six Pack” (yes, I never even knew anything beyond a Turkey existed) everything you know ceases to make any sense any more.

Asura’s Wrath for the PS3. It has a very unique feel about it and played more like a movie that you control rather than a game with cut scenes.

Also, I love RPGs for my laptop. I am all about Guild Wars 2 and The Witcher 2. Never got into WoW.

Uncharted 1,2, and 3…Bioshock series, Deadspace series…And Batman Arkham City

In case anyone thinks I’m exaggerating.

And the training game with the red pin.

Haha, thanks! He LOVES Star Wars (IV, V and VI, of course), and I have as much fun adding to his collection as he does getting new toys. Darth Vader and Jabba are his favorite characters, haha.

Look at the scoreboard with all the strikes. That’s the Six Pack game.

Final Fantasy I on the original Nintendo. Leveled my Characters till I could kill Chaos in 2 rounds.
KOTAR I and II on Xbox. I have played this game 40-50 times and it never gets old.

Surprised at some of the answers im seeing. Many of those games i wouldnt consider “guilty” pleasures, just pleasures. lol

Well they are not run around shooting up or online being killed by 14 year old Asian kids. :slight_smile:

So its just not one of those games that are popular by the masses.

Just The Tip

Oh, you meant VIDEO games…

Real answer: almost any RPG on the SNES. Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, the FF games… Crystalis on the NES is still playable IMO. These obviously weren’t guilty pleasures when they were introduced, I think they were all well received (especially Chrono Trigger), but the fact that I still re-play these qualifies I think.
