Hey everyone I’m going to be logging my strongman training here! I’m a new dad to a 4 month old little girl and I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been training and competing in strongman for 13 years (Don’t confuse that with me being really good) and I’m hopefully going to be competing this fall once things with the baby get easier! I’m eyeing an October 5th contest with the following events:
200 lb Log Clean and Press for reps (1 clean and press away)
Car Deadlift for reps, front handle (who knows what weight, mystery!)
220 lb per hand farmers walk for 75 feet (should be a speed event!)
Sandbag throw over 12 feet, 30/30/40/40 sandbags
Atlas Stone series to 52 inches, 200/220/235/250/270 (should be ez!)
Let me log my first workout on here, I’m running a conjugate type style training method and yesterday was day 1 week 1:
9 sets of 3 speed bench press against doubled up bands (100 lbs) (3 sets of each grip, close/regular/wide)
3 sets of 5 strict press on log press (110/120/130)
Run the rack dumbbell strict press (50’s, 30’s, 20’s, 15’s, 10’s, 7.5’s… approx 55 reps total)
100 reps of skull crushers with an ez-curl bar, many sets to accomplish. (Ez curl bar + 40 lbs)
Run the rack lateral raises (30’s, 20’s, 15’s, 10’s, 7.5’s…10 reps each, 50 total)
Wish me luck on getting strong again after the baby! I’m hoping to get back in strongman shape and have fun with this sport again

Snatch Grip Deadlift up to heavy triple:
225x3, 275x3, 315x3, 365x3
SSB Squat:
240 x 5 for 3 sets
SSB Good Mornings:
150 x 6 for 3 sets
Ab Wheel Rollout:
3 sets of 10
DONE! Didnt feel too great but I got the work in, next workout is max effort upper body, I believe a heavy triple with a 2 board press bench wide grip. Should be interesting

Today was the dynamic effort day, got a lot of work done and my arms are TOAST! I can’t wait to see my pressing gains in a few months. Little heavier than last session of this type and I did log bar z-presses which were very difficult but I can see them being helpful from a stability standpoint.

That’s great! I’ve done some highland’s games. I grew up around strongman training. My godfather is Phil Pfister so I got to see some really strong guys and incredible training while I was growing up. I wish I would have been more interested in training with them when I was younger.
What a godfather to have! Phil is a legend. I’ll never forget his Hercules hold speech when he announced that one day he would win world’s strongest man before letting go of the pillars. He achieved that shortly after.
Strongman is still a lot of fun after 13 years I just don’t get too competitive with it and have fun. I’ll do a nationals or two but don’t score top half. I can usually podium at local shows in the lightweight category (I’m 185 lbs)

Did Max Effort Lower Body today! I had fun and got a little small tiny injury but it’ll buff out in a day or two.
Heavy Triple Front Squat: 45x3, 135x3, 185x3, 225x3
Snatch Grip Deadlift: 3 sets of 5 at 315 lbs
Good Mornings: 135 lbs x 10 reps, 6 reps(small rib injury, stopped here)
Back Extension: 3x15 at BW
Ab Wheel Rollouts: 3x15
Rib isn’t feeling too bad, I’m glad I stopped with good mornings when I did. Next session is max effort upper body! I’m excited for it.
2-Board press CLOSE GRIP triple - worked up to 225
Close grip bench press - 165 lbs 3x8reps
Chin ups - 40 reps
Bent over row - 115 lbs 3x10reps
Facepull - 3x20reps
I always feel like my lower back is goin to explode doing these. I remember doing seated GMs while following a sheiko program pretty weird but help with having explosive hips.
Today’s training went pretty well! I was short on time so had to cut my triceps short but overall I’m happy with it.

Speed bench and strict log went pretty good, making progress and feeling decent about it.
9x3 speed bench at 100 lbs with doubled up bands
3x5 log press strict (115/125/135) also did 155x1 as a joker set
2 sets of 8 log z-press 85 lbs
100 reps of skullcrushers ez curl bar with bar+50 lbs
run the rack lateral raises - 50 reps total
Hit some heavyish front squat and some reps on deficit deadlifts, I’m making progress on both. All time PRs on these lifts are 345 front squat and 455 deficit deadlift.
Front Squat to a heavy triple: 135x3, 185x3, 225x3, 250x3 (not bad)
Deficit Deadlift: 3 sets of 5 with 315 lbs (felt easy and smooth)
