I’m right handed, both my arms are 17" however my tricept on the right looks well formed while the tricept on the left in the rear especially seems non existant. To complicate things my left shoulder looks awesome when compared to my right shoulder. All three heads on the left are larger than the right. My traps seem larger on the left as well. I can’t figure this out because I thought everything would have grown larger on the right side. Thursday is my shoulder day, so today I’ve started doiong all my excercises together but stopping on the left side for the last two reps in order to really deplete the right side and maybe catch up.
Does any one have any personal experience, or exercise protocol I could follow in order to balance my self out.
Thanks BC
same exact problem I have. My right arm and shoulder is more developed than my left.
I have a similar problem. I’ve corrected some of the imbalances (mostly right vs left) but still have some work to do.
In order to correct the problem utilize unilateral training in ALL exercises. Also try a type of periodization.
Your imbalance could be caused by CNS problems, lack of capillary density in your smaller muscles and/or overall contractile properties (strength).
If this sounds like the case, train the weak muscle by itself and follow with the EXACT same number of reps on the stronger muscle. It’s the “let your kid brother go first” rule from the Testosterone Training Codex.
Now the periodization part. Ian King advocates doing 2-3 reps on the weak side for every 1 rep on the strong side. Use this to improve the capillary density in the weak muscle. In other words, kill the weak muscles with VOLUME and maintain the stronger muscles.
To improve the central nervous system end, use GVT or 1-6 training with all weights calculated to the weak arm. Again unilateral.
Finally to improve strength, use unilateral 5X5 or 3X8 or something to that effect.
Expect this to take anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. It’s a real bitch because of the extra time involved from doing evreything seperate but it’s worth it. I’ve resigned myself to a degree of imbalance that will never be corrected but it’s certainly better than it used to be. Hope this helps, Peace
I’m assuming you are using dumbells for all your excercises. If not then switch your routine to excercises which involve only dumbells. Do as many reps as the weaker side will allow or do the smaller/weaker side first then do the larger/stronger side second for the same amount of reps. Give it time and have patience. We all have muscle imbalances, its just for some it is more noticeable. laters pk
