I love my wife, no doubt about it. We’ve been together for over 18 years. She is my best friend and she has borne me 2 beautiful children.
I don’t care that I have to iron my own shirts, after all I’m the one who wears them.
By making my own meals (apart from dinner) I get to eat exactly what I want. I ignore the jeering and jokes about oats, yoghurt, PP and banana being Fear Factor food. Don’t even mention eggs!
Heck, I don’t even mind helping with the housework on Saturdays and enjoy taking the kids to karate, soccer, or athletics. I love my kids too.
But when I bought my new bench and she got all excited because it has a leg extension and leg curl attachment, well, I can only take so much. Doesn’t she know that they are the devil’s work! All sorts of squats, deads, good mornings and SLDL rule!
Leg extensions……… sheesh, leg curls …….OMG!!!
As if that wasn’t bad enough she suggested that I design a program for my 13 year old son incorporating these implements. Good on Ya! Why don’t we just change his name to Damien and tattoo 666 on the back of his neck?
Once she had gone my I started the deprogramming process. Don’t listen to your mother son, I’ll get you doing stuff like a real bloke, the kind of stuff Dad does”
I’m sure, “Yeah Whatever” was his way of saying great idea, after all I am a Master of the Universe.
Leg curls and extensions might be less than idea, but CT put them in OVT so they can’t suck as bad as all that. People diss the Smith Machine all the time too, but check out these quotes from Issue No. 39. There are from Ian King in his “Question of Power” column:
“Regarding leg extensions, the negativity toward them is a knee-jerk reaction by a group of people who are trying to quell their consciences following the “discovery” that the exercise they were promoting in the 80s as superior to the squat is no longer politically correct. If it hurts, don’t do it. If it doesn’t hurt, use it.”
and
"Regarding the Smith machine, leg press, and hack squat, I like them because they offer you variety; variety to stimulate muscle mass, and variety when other exercises are contraindicated due to pain experienced. The crucial question is which device or exercise deserves to be used the majority of the time, not which is bad or good. For the athlete, squatting is generally superior. But for bodybuilding, it doesn’t matter as much, as long as you get the result. Having said that, I believe squats are the corner stone of most programs, but I love the options that the machines provide.
Which machine is best? Use them all. Make your own mind up. You don’t need me to tell which one does it for you!"
Hey Hyphnz,
Before she gets out of hand, I say you send her to her room, tell her you will be up shortly, give her a few spanks and then show her how Olifts and deads have more real world function by teaching you proper hip thrust and glute recruitment than leg curls and extensions…actually I guess when you are done if done properly she will realize that isometric leg extension holds only have limited application, but other than that they are really all useless.
Peace,
T-Ren
Of course I knew you were joking. I’ve just been looking for an excuse to drop those King quotes. Plenty of people say that stuff and aren’t joking, though. Figured this was as good a context as any.
Hey, at least she isn’t anti-weights altogether. The love of my life called me the other night after 3 years of being the one that got away. At the end of our 6 hour conversation, I asked her if she would ever do squats or deads. She said no because they will make your butt get big if you do them the wrong way. Oh well, plenty of other fish in the sea…
