Grizzly Takes the Stage for the First Time

Thanks Tim.

So some news. RJ and I decided that I will not be ready in time for the show I originally chose (while staying healthy and not risking muscle loss). For the moment we have our eye on 3 possible shows and as the weeks progress will make a decision as to which is best. At the earliest I will get at least an extra month to prep.

They are:

06/28/14 Virginia Beach, VA OCB Natural Bodyz Beach Classic (IFPA PQ)
07/26/14 McDonough, GA NANBF Natural Georgia
08/02/14 Lexington, SC OCB Carolina Classic

Now we’ll be competing in bb’ing around the same time, instead of me being a month or so after you! Will make our friendly competition more fun

Always a silver lining.

Did it at the beginning of the last cycle (2nd with RJ) so might as well do it for my third:

Bodyweight: 189–>181–>176
Bench: 235 x 6–>245 x 6–>245 x 7
OHP: 115 x 7–>130 x 6–>140 x 6
Squat: 355 x 6–>365 x 5–>370 x 6(ish)
Deadlift: 425 x 5–>440 x 6–>440 x 5 (grip failed , had 1 or 2 left in the tank)

Weight continues to decrease, strength continues to increase/stay the same.

In two months I have lost 13 lbs and improved all of my lifts.

Thats realllly good progress, especially the bench which is notoriously tied to body weight for many people. That, your OHP, and your weight loss really let us know you are “dialed in” and your training and diet are both working appropriately.

Its all the tilapia, brown rice, and asparagus, hypo thermogenesis and igf-1 manipulation in full affect

That is great progress! Do you guys have any rough guess or range of weight that you think you’ll be stage ready at? Just wondering how much more you need to lean up that 9 weeks would be too rushed

I might come watch you if you do the mcdonough show. My parents live close to there.

I’m doing the NANBF (IFPA PQ) in ATL on Sept 27
That’s not very far off from August.

Always the smart decision IMO. Too many people get an idea for a certain show date in their head, and when combined with the usual false idea of what they’re going to actually weigh when they’re in contest shape, well, it can lead to some bad experiences. So long as you’re proud of what you did and how you look on game day, you’ve won.

S

@pwolves17 probably 165ish. Not really sure. Haven’t really asked RJ. I am sure he has an idea

@paulieserafini I will keep you updated. Good luck with your show.

@The Mighty Stu Exactly. I trust RJ and know that he has my best interest in mind. No reason to rush this shit. Its my first time so might as well use it as a learning experience.

update pic. Down to 175 lbs. Hamstrings starting to come in from the back.

Ideal would be mid to high 150’s actually BUT the number is a general estimation/gauge, might be more might be less no tru answer but that is the gauge/range number.

Worked out with Vann Brah yesterday. Did not know it at the time but he has a pretty decent youtube following. Here is the video he made of the workout.

Haha sounds like a good dude, and that’s gonna be big for you having a solid training partner as you get deep into prep. Oh, caught your secret identity by the way…nice to meet you, Mike

Looking good in your new avi!

Yeah we will see how much he is around. I think he has a shit ton of traveling coming up soon. Seems like a good dude and is around the same strength as me. Hoping he will be around next week for 5/3/1+ week.

Took a page out of your book mah dude.

p.s. It is weird seeing comments on a video I am in on youtube. I keep getting nervous that someone will call me a bitch on the interwebz :0

Luckily it mostly seems like people calling Vann out on his dead lift form rather then noticin me at all.

Hey Grizz, are you taking regularly scheduled off days from training? My coach is letting me be pretty instinctual when it comes to rest days right now. They’re scheduled for 2 on, 1 off in my current program but if I feel well rested he said I’m free to train. I hate taking days off during prep as I feel my training sessions are such a great metabolic disturbance to stimulate fat loss, and obviously retain muscle.

I also love being in the gym, as I’m sure is the case for all of the guys reading this! It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve taken a day off, considering making myself take tomorrow off. I feel good and wanna train, but wonder if it’d be beneficial for me to rest a bit before this last stretch of prep

I take one of per week. MT- lift Wed- Cardio TF-lift S- lift and cardio S- rest. I definitely feel you on loving to be in the gym. If my rest days weren’t scheduled I would probably lift instead. I try to just relax and do some light stretching on the rest day.

Its kind of nice having one day off right before my strength days. Lets me prepare mentally and physically.

Just fucking around a bit. Finally had a chance to snap some pics with a blank background and good lighting.
