Ever since I read Alwyn Cosgrove’s advice on heavy doses of green tea and fish oil for fat loss, I’ve implemented them into my current cutting phase. I’m currently taking 2 Flameout at each of my four whole food meals and drinking 20 oz of green tea to wash them down with.
Problem is; green tea tastes like dry dirt and leaves a horrible aftertaste. One packet of Splenda seems to solve this problem (for me at least). It doesn’t make me crave sweets and I have no trouble sticking to my meal plan while using this artifical sweetener. I even leave 50 cal’s empty to account for the hidden 4 cals per packet.
Here’s my question; is the Splenda ruining the affect of the green tea? Is there anything else it has an affect on such as spiking insulin? I realize the mental affect and how it makes some people crave sugar. It does not for me.
Can’t help you on your Splenda question, but I’d definitely trying out different brands of green tea. They can taste very different from brand to brand. It took me a while to find one that I like. Good Earth Jasmine Green Tea is my current favorite, but some of the other ones that I’ve tried were just awful. Good luck.
Yeah I have green tea with little bits of pomegranite in it. It sorta just tastes like really watered down juice, but it is way more enjoyable than plain green tea.
You can try using Stevia instead of the Splenda. It’s more expensive but you don’t need to use as much and it doesn’t have the chemicals that Splenda does.
I should have left out the first half of my post and just wrote…

I agree with the above statement on Stevia. I use A LOT of stevia, in replacement for sugar or even Splenda.
You might be able to make it taste better without adding sweetener by trying a few things: 1) don’t steep it in boiling water, try around 180 degrees instead 2) don’t steep too long, 3) brew a bunch at once in a pot, then ice it and add lemon. Then you’ll have a nice big pitcher of green tea ready to drink whenever, and it might taste a bit better to you, too.
I’ve been using a packet of splenda in every cup of tea I have for about a month now (I have about 3-5 cups a day). Definitely is a night and day difference for me. But as others suggested, I think Stevia is the better way to go. I’m just a cheap piece of crap, so that’s the only reason I haven’t made the switch yet.
But as an interesting suggestion, I heard from someone who uses a few drops of lemon in each cup. I would think that might be a good way to go. I have lemons in my fridge, but I haven’t tried it yet since I’m a lazy piece of crap.
