What’s the latest w/ using Splenda? I’ve been using alot lately! I woulds say around 12-15 tbls. ALMOST everyday! It says on the package it’s made from sugar! How is this done & am I gonna kill myself using that much.
I’ve been adding 2 tbls. to each of my 3 protein drinks a day plus 1 tbls to each cup of coffee every morning & haveing about 3 of those every morning & then there the ice coffee I been makin myself in the afternoon! I have around 2-4 big glasses w/ 1 tbls. w/ each one of those.
So I’m a little worried & I believe it’s way too much.
Please give me your thoughts & make sure u tell me how stupid I am, thanks!
Depends how paranoid you are. Since it is man-made and not natural, many health nuts would say stay away from it AMAP.
I would agree with that somewhat, and propose using as much Stevia as possible.
Remember that if you take Grow! and Surge you’re already getting SPlenda in there.
If you don’t use them, then go ahead and use splenda once in a while. Also, do a web search. Try Mercola’s website.

I cannot speak to any health risks, but damn if that stuff does not taste great. I put 2 packets of it in my green tea and it works out nice. But you sound like you are some kind of Splenda fiend, my man!
Splenda is not carb free- i thought it had 1 carb per teaspoon. Seeing as how you are muching quite a lot, might be worth seeing if my memory is correct.
Other prob I would say is that in order to eat like a “T-Man” long-term i.e. lean meats, veggies, fruits, whole grains etc. you will find it easier if you can get rid of your sweet tooth.
Granulated splenda has 24 g/carbs per cup (off of Berardi’s website). I eat it like a fiend (like put it in a bowl and eat it straight). The problem is that your body begins dissasociating sweetness with calories and you’ll end up eating more sweet sugary stuff (when you do) without feeling satiated.

Just remember if you do that Mercola would have us all living inside bubbles, plus he’s been proven wrong a couple of occasions. Oh, and I read somewhere that the only negative Splenda studies were sponsored by the sugar industry.
I agree, to an extent. But I think common sense dictates we ought to limit AMAP non-natural substances. Anyway, I’ve never heard of any negative studies. Can you elaborate?

I was under the impression that even artificial sweeteners can effect glucose levels or insulin production or something and aren’t particularly good for you, although they are better than sugar.
If this is not the case, then I will be happy to resume my use of Splenda immediately.

I haven’t read the study, only heard others discussing it on a message board. I think this one.
It’s probably the same as all the other studies on artificial sweeteners: not great for you if you consume 20 pounds of it a day, or whatever ridiculous amount they gave mice. Hell, water is toxic if you drink too much. I forget the big medical term for it, but it is.

It’s also added in many of the recepies of JB’s book gourmet nutrition. However, can this stuff actually be found outside of the US?[/quote]
Yes, it is over here in Australia, and if it can be found here then it is likely to be found in other parts of the world, we always get things last because we are too far away!
If its Grow! you are using for you shakes…i don’t know WHY you use any sweetner. Anyway, like posted previously…if you FEEL something…go with your gut feeling and cut its use to a moderation.
Not that im going to say splenda is the healthiest thing in the world for you, But just cause Stevia is natural does not mean its not going to cause cancer or seizures or illness or whatever in large quantities etc etc.
In general, desensitizing your sweet tooth would be the best thing. I use all sorts of artificial sweetners(including stevia), but try to just stick to meats & veggies.
I know Low Carb Grow! has sucralose in it already, and I trust Biotest enough that if it wasn’t safe, they wouldn’t use it.
I found one person who described how it was made. By spraying sugar with a chemical that prevented digestion. He described it as being similar to the way they make pesticides. (I don’t have the slightest idea if this is true.) Then he made the illogical leap of saying you shouldn’t consume a pesticide.
I see the effects of Twinkies on fat people, so I am not worried about Splenda. It’s the only artificial sweetener I use.
Oh, and my daughter made a pumpkin pie, and replaced the sugar with Splenda. I couldn’t tell the difference. Thanksgiving is saved.
I’m gonna do some research on it @ Google, but I better cut back cause I’m using too much. Maybe 1-2 tbls is enough. And who knows the long term effects, it’s new, so…
