Greatest Ever Mr. O Physique

Nah, Ronnie and Branch are both from Texas so I have to give to them. As for Dorian he is the man.

Well there arent that many mixed race bodybuilders.

BONEZ217, I think it was in the sense that no one likes both black AND white bodybuilders. Like no one likes both Jay Cutler AND Ronnie Coleman. Which I’m not sure is true, I think many people like both. I don’t think it was in the sense of “a bodybuilder who is half-black, half-white”.

My favourite bodybuilder is Samir Bannout, after that perhaps Lee Haney.

A propos of nothing, I went to Mr. Olympia in 2009 and Dennis Wolf gave me a headlock.

He looks a lot more open/friendly than I remember him being. A better shot than the usual gang sign crap definitely

Actually, I got a shot of me and Ronnie Coleman arm wrestling from the same event. And my friend got a pic of him and Ronnie both doing front double bicep at the same time. Everyone we met was pretty much a blast with the exception of Jay Cutler who looked dieted down and really tired and cranky, but I can’t really blame a guy, he’d been signing papers for like 10 hours and had to compete the next day.

Of course.

Nah, it’s just that I’ve seen so many pics of a fan together with a pro or celeb and either one or both are throwing up peace or gang signs or whatever with their fingers as if there was some unwritten law that you can’t take a picture of you together with someone you admire without doing that.

That’s kind of normal for a zomb- … Oh.

? I am now confused because peace signs are being compared to GANG SIGNS. Most of the people under the age of 40 will likely take a picture this year throwing up a peace sign. That isn’t strange at all.

What would you expect they do in a picture? Is there some singular pose out there that says, “I am not in a gang” so we can all use it from now on in pictures?

Whenever someone snaps a pic of me, I like to throw up da Shocker. That way people know that I’ve been in a gang(bang).

My favorite is Dorian followed closely by Ronnie. I met Ronnie and got a photo with him but unfortunately we both forgot to put up our respective gang signs.

Ronnie was larger overall, but he ‘stood on the shoulders’ of Yates just as Yates did of Haney. Always gonna wonder how far Dorian would have pushed his limits if injuries didn’t force him to step down.

Really hard to compare champions from different periods, the standard changes too much.

Bingo. Its rare that an athlete ever retires during his prime, and theres nothing about Yates career that doesnt make me thinks he would have only gotten better.

Ronnie may have the size, but his physique doesnt quite have that same Concrete fucking wall look that Dorian’s had.

Somebody must REALLY like flashing peace signs in his photographs…

fair enough but what set dorian apart from his competitors and won him six mr. o’s was his size and back and ronnie bettered him on both of those aspects plus had a better x frame than him

imo just as it took time for jay to dethrone ronnie, if dorian didnt retire it would have only been time before ronnie did the same

?

Yates had two major torn muscle groups. There was quite a bit saying he would not get better by his last contest.

at the moment zane and heath are my favourite.

I’d say ronnie but I find it painful watching him pose, he can’t pose for shit, being so freakin big allowed the judges to overlook that fact. I really liked jay’s 01 look, there are some gym photos flying around where he looks amazing.

shawn ray was too small to win it, nasser lost from behind(although in 96 or 97 you could argue him beating dorian), flex had calf implants

[quote]DanielDJ wrote:

I think Yates’ overall density and conditioning (with a ridiculous amount of mass on a 5’10 frame) is what really set him apart. Sure his back was just beastly, but it was the overall quality of his physique (that dry, grainy, carved from stone look) that allowed him to beat competitors who may have been physically larger (ie, Nasser, Dillet…)

[quote]

Jay didn’t beat Ronnie, Ronnie lost by steppingg onstage in a visably injuried condition (Yates’ injuries weren’t apparant to the naked eye). Ronnie had an injury that resulted in half of his back muscle atrophying, essentially killing any of his usually dominant back poses. Dorian may have kept improving if injuries hadn’t cause him to consider his options. As such, we’ll never know if Ronnie would have improved at a rate fast enough to catch a healthy, still improving Yates. At least not before he retired.

(For the record, I am a big fan of Jay, Ronnie and Yates, but admittedly, Yates gets a special nod from me -lol)
