Greatest Ever Mr. O Physique

+1 on Lavrone… IMO the best physique to ever hit a BB stage.

the guy was strong as hell too. his bench was insane.

I have a strong opinion on this. If we are to use what I think the modern standards of bodybuilding are, that is (to over simplify) more muscle and less fat is better, provided you maintain good symmetry, then I think Ronnie Coleman is our winner. I think that as bodybuilding has evolved over the years, each new generation got bigger, harder, and leaner. You can see the progression from Arnie to Haney to Yates to Coleman. Coleman has simply accomplished more with his physique than his predecessors. To argue that he isn;t as good is like arguing that Jesse Owens or Carl Lewis were better sprinters because they had prettier form.

Having said that, in a perfect world where I got to be the sole judge, I think Arnie had the perfect body. To me, that is the ideal physique. He had a ton of muscle, but not too much, was very symmetrical and balanced, and was very lean, but not too lean. I personally wouldn;t mind looking like Arnie. The modern bodybuilders, though I respect what they have accomplished, are just too lean and too muscular for my taste.[/quote]

I completely agree with you. I’m a bit surprised Arnold wasn’t mentioned more on this thread. I understand Professor X’s explanations and find them very insightful. He makes a solid point that this is a professional sport and money talks. Everyone is entitled to their preferences.

I’m divided between Schwarzenegger, Phil Heath and Ronnie Coleman. The first… because he’s the fucking Terminator, that’s why hehehe. Ronnie for being very inspiring, so fucking huge and the strength to back it up, I watch his 800 lbs deadlift videos on YouTube as motivation before I hit the gym. And Phil because I think he’s the best of both worlds: Big, but kind of pleasing to the eye like the bodybuilders of Arnold’s time.

Of course, I enjoy BB overall, and respect guys like Flex Wheeler, Levrone, Yates and Cutler. Those above are just my personal favorites.

All in all, BB rocks!

It impresses me how in the pic that BONEZ posted on the first page where a black and white Flex and Phil Heath are next to each other in a similar pose, Flex’s arms and delts look significantly more impressive than Heath’s. Could be a lighting thing, but blows my fucking mind.

I love Dorian, but he just didn’t have a pretty physique at all.

Agreed with 99-03 Ronnie, he was un fucking believable. If flex had a little more back, he’d have done it for me. When Ronnie hit that rear double bi in Way’s vid… holy fucking shit. Lights OUT.

I thought Flex looked better in the comparison shot posted which is phenomenal given that there’s a decade between them n just shows how good ronnie was back then.

Yeah ive seen that pic before and always thought that, if thats a legit comparison, Flex looks better, hands down. They have such similar physiques so seeing the two of them side by side really makes Heath’s narrow clavicles stand out.

its a dead thread but thought i should share this pic

you could fit kevins chest and shoulders into ronnies pecs and there would till be space left lol

Yeah thats a good point…Ronnie had a big frame, 5’10-5’11, and filled it out…

Even in a suit he looks like a freak, while Phil Heath can ‘disappear’ in a suit or t-shirt.

I just wish his abs weren’t so fucked up…say what you will about Nasser, but no 300-lber has ever had better abs.

Dorian Yates = the best!!! That is all

this was in '96

from the front i reckon ronnie coleman matched him in this pic and this was way before his prime

edit: just noticed this pic is photoshopped and isnt a true side to side

another comparison

(although i think 1999 and 2003 ronnie coleman versions would have been better for comparison cause those were his best 2 years imo)

Ronnie was larger overall, but he ‘stood on the shoulders’ of Yates just as Yates did of Haney. Always gonna wonder how far Dorian would have pushed his limits if injuries didn’t force him to step down.

Really hard to compare champions from different periods, the standard changes too much.

S

From back in the day: Franco and Serge.
Of todays competitors: Dexter, Roelly Winklaar and the Jay of the 09 Olympia

dorian yates… mike christian. labrada.

I like Arnold’s physique best.

Love Labrada’s physique. Definitely should have beaten Haney that year they drug tested.

Yep. Perfect.

Not to take anything away from Haney though.

The only reason Franco Colombu won the 0 is because Arnold retired that year. Same with his 2nd win.

what i find funny about this thread is with a very very few exceptions, whenever somebody posts their lists of top guys they are either all white or all black. lol.

edited, first post was a bit harsh.

Ronnie Coleman, Branch Warren and Dorian Yates.
