Good Substitution for Carries?

I’m trying out Activate → Ramp-> Density-> Carries but having trouble actually doing the carries in my gym. It’s in a basement without a lot of open floor space and often pretty crowded. In perfect conditions i have to go back and forth over a fairly short distance and basically guess at the distance. Is there anything else you could do for this layer?

I was thinking Turkish get ups are pretty similiar in that they work just about everything, get yo breathing hard, and would keep the shoulder under tension the whole time. Maybe another layer of the main lift is a better idea?

I lift in my basement w/ a low ceiling and tight space too. Trap bar carries, DB farmers walks, goblet hold carries, waiter’s walks, overhead carries with a single plate (or DB or EZ curl bar) – none of these require much space. For some of these I just march in place due to space/height restrictions… it’s not ideal but it still gives the metabolic effect of walking plus forces your stabilizers to continue firing.

I know where you are coming from since I work out in my own garage and there isn’t much space in there. My advice to you is this: do step ups! This is what I do when I can’t/don’t want to go outside. It’s not as effective as walking long distances but it still works. When your options are limited you have to think outside the box. One “carry” variation I used to use often was the Waterbury walk. Grab a pair of light-ish dumbbells, put them overhead, and walk in a figure eight pattern. Do your best with what you have!
