Good Shoes for Squats?

Not all problems can be fixed. Someone with a short torso/long femurs is never going to be able to squat deep without either bending way forward or using a raised heel.

It lets your knees go a bit futher forward, which in turn allows you to keep a more vertical torso, which reduces the length of the lever and thus allows you to lift more weight.

If you have mobility issues, or poor dimensions for squating (see my above post) then they can really improve your form as well.

My advice: try squating with the 5# weights (or a board) under your heels. If you find this feels better (give it a couple of sessions to get used to it) then go with weightlifting shoes (don’t keep using the weights under your heel, that isn’t particularly safe). If it doesn’t, go with Chucks.
