My best raw squat is 375, but raw deadlift is 500+ hah!
I just have good levers for the deadlift, plus I’m skinny(my levers for the squat will improve when i fatten up lolz).

Great feedback. Thanks guys.
I used to be one of the rare cases of someone who could squat way more than they can deadlift. I never tried deadlifting until my 3rd or 4th year of training and by that stage I was already squatting (below parallel) at least 200kg/440lbs.
Yet on my first day of attempting deadlifts I was seriously struggling to get 100kg up… However after some technical instruction I pulled 160kg/352lbs a few days later and by the end of the year my deadlift was up to 230kg compared to a squat of 215kg.
The ratio still wasn’t great which I believe was primarily due to a combination of too little leg drive and a weak grip.
After taking a few years off I’ve finally got back into heavy lifting again and this time I’ve been much more dedicated in regards to deadlifting and my ratios a looking a little better this time around.
i squat 450 and my last ME deadlift was 430 from a deficit i haven’t done a regular pull in a while, before that my best conventional deadlift was 430. i’m stalky i’m around 5’8 or 5’9

Stalky? Like an asparagus?
Big Mike,
My numbers are close to yours 375 squat, 400 deadlift, 455 on the hex bar last week. I’m going to try 425 in a few more days. I am also stalky at 5’9
Maybe try some box squatting?
I know exactly the feeling…personally I have a 475@198 squat (IPF, belt only) with a 635 raw deadlift yet my deadlift still seems to be rising quicker than my squat!
Recently pulled 565x5…just missing the 6th at the top. The answer is to just squat squat squat.
Box squat, paused ATF squats, bulgarians, partials etc. Just keep plugging away and it will come…
Hammering the core and lats wont hurt either!
I’m still curious about the guy that supposably got fired. Anyone know why?
Pretty sure its my avatar. The one with the bouncing ass.
Gotta look for something more “family friendly”.

Yeah but you love it…
So, I did some squatting today for the first time since Nov 19. I’ve been doing lots of deadlifting, some single leg work, and plenty of ab work (evil wheel mostly). Long story short, with a stronger core, there was a huge improvement.

I’m in the same situation too, i find that if i do a half/quarter squat, i can easy do 405 for reps, but my full squat specifically right out of the hole sucks, so i’ve been doing extra hamstring and lower back work, and its helping me to improve.
WTF
I think your deadlift form also may be pretty busted. I assume that if you aint raking the shins on the lift, it aint right. That being that case, when i do it, I get massive quad drive along with the back.
I think yor back is just weak as shit, which is why everything is coming out from underneath you. My squat and dead only go up good when i am hitting BOTH lifts in the course of a week and hitting them hard, so re-evaluate your dead form and then apply. Also try not using a belt on yor lighter sets.

It’s wierd, I use my quads a LOT on my heavier deadlifts, but I keep hearing people say the quads shouldn’t play a huge role, the hammys should. But I seem to use back-quads-glutes to get it up.

I’ve always liked the deadlift. PR is 385lbs. Squat’s a different story. I think my PR is around 300lbs with crappy form and I doubt I made it to 90 degrees. I have the flexibility. I can do pistols (one legged squat) no problem with and without weight. I do struggle with overhead squats due to shoulder flexibility.
What I’ve done recently is ramped up my ab work in addition to deadlifting and squatting. The problem I have when I add weight to the squat is at the bottom.
Transitioning from rock bottom, my ass usually comes out and I end up doing a partial good morning and that fucking sucks. I’m tempted to forget the squat but it’s just too great of an exercise to leave out of a work out plan.
So I’m wondering if I just need to keep squatting more or whether I might want to target some weak spots (which I assume is my core). I just read Mahler’s article where he recommends 1x20 or 2x10 when starting out. Any other advice?
I had the same problem, with the good morning squat thing.
Sounds stupid but you have to encourage yourself just to lean back alittle more throughout the lift.
MikiB, don’t change a thing. Your avatar was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.
