THOUGHTS: Great session today. I think I’m finding my groove finally. One of my training partners said that even in the short time she’s been watching us log press, she can tell I’m getting smoother and faster with it. Always good to hear constructive criticism like that. My conditioning still sucks, which is to be expected since I’m up to 219 lbs now. When I first pack on weight I’m always a little miserable doing conditioning for a while, but then it all catches up. I’m not worried.
Off to finish cooking dinner. Pork tenderloin, wild rice, and squash/zucchini/onion (medley?)… mmmm.

Felt great going into the workout. Spent some time studying outside by the pool today which apparently also bled the awesome out of me. But, I had a great session yesterday, and 315 for 5 ain’t too bad, all things considered. Need to step it up though. Without a yoke (temporarily) I need to really work on my squat and moving events so I’m not too bad off when I get to yoke again.
At any rate, going to rest tomorrow, study up, and probably go for a long walk before breakfast as a sort of active recovery.
Here’s hoping for a better Thursday and a kick ass events day Saturday. One step at a time, at least I’m getting stronger.

Good day overall. Very pleased with how the session turned out. Not having a yoke is going to suck though. Going to squat with the cambered bar this Tuesday to try and simulated the yoke position as best I can. Not the same, but it will work the needed muscles. I feel like I’m in a good place so far. Need to study hard and pass boards so I can really work on the 4 day split, which seems to feel really good. Plus, I moved my g/f’s stuff from 8 am to 6 pm yesterday, so I was a little worn out today coming into it.
All in all? Very pleased. Good things to come.

Re-tooling my training to prep for the May meet while still studying for/taking boards is tough. I’d decided to go back to full body training with one events day (Saturday) to hit the stuff I didn’t focus on during the week (farmers, tire, kegs, stones, etc). I’d had great success with a previous template but I’d outgrown it and was looking to add in some more accessory work and dynamic/explosive stuff. Wasn’t exactly sure what to do, then I saw that Chad Coy article, and it presented a pretty damn good template.
As I’ve never had luck with strict DE work a la Westside type stuff, I may omit that section of the day depending on if I feel I need it or not. Will be working up to the activation volume (5 sets of cleans and 3 of the others kicked my ass today) but otherwise will follow the template. In order to accommodate my training partners, I may be moving around the ME work and the Circa-max sections but otherwise, I think it’s a sound start.
