Kalle - Dallas huh? That should be interesting. I might see if I can make it down for that one. All depends on work and life at that point haha.
Spar - I don’t ever want to reach that level of gay. No desire at all haha

DONE.
Good session despite feeling crappy today. I’m going to do runs with the Sandbag mostly and use the keg only once every few weeks. A keg has handles, so the sandbag should provide the better training stimulus. Going to set up the hand over hand pull on Monday and give it a run. I figure if I can pull a heavy prowler (which stops and is dead weight) then a truck that rolls should be easier. I’ll have to find a tire eventually, because I can’t afford to screw up that event, but this should be a good show. I have a goal now, time for a deload week and then its back to kicking ass.
Irish Accents AND Pixar films? Looking forward to this one.
Also, if you’re a fan of westerns, check out the synopsis and cast for Django Unchained. It’s going to be amazing. Quentin Tarantino + Western + ??? = PROFIT.
Back in the gym tonight for a little deload session. Will report back.
Felt great today. Went back to eating breakfast again since I wasn’t seeing improved results from the backloading and was feeling like shit. So of course I feel like a monster in the gym tonight. Signed up at NBS, and man, it’s glorious seeing all that EFS equipment in one place. And so many friggin dumbbells. For $35/month. Fuck. Yes.
Box Squat, Touch and Go

So stoked about today. I finally found my will to lift again. Might be breakfast, (mmm bacon), or might be the better atmosphere, but I’m back. Going to be fun.
Nothing much to report today. Shoulder is feeling poopy but I forgot to take my Curcumin last night and this morning. Just putting in work. I have to take an elective this weekend so I’ll miss training Saturday. Going to get it in on Sunday with my lil brother. Smash heavy weight and shit.

Had to get to school and finish up some work. Will be back to smash weight on Sunday. Ready to be back in it.
So I don’t know how I’ve survived 25 years on this green earth without realizing how damn tasty homemade chicken rotel is. Holy shit. I ate two plates and there’s so much leftover, so I’ll just eat a box of girl scout cookies instead. NOM NOM NOM

Body is beaten down, which means I did it right. Chowing down on a mondo amount of chipotle plus some delicious goodies my g/f left at the apt and surprised me with. She’s awesome. And since she supports my goals to gain weight and be strong as hell, I’m gonna marry that.
Burned out from work. Don’t want to do anything. Went to gym to kick ass instead.

Felt good today bro. Going to chill all week and come back to smash weight on Saturday. I got a sort of “spring break” next week so I’ll be in the gym 4 days hopefully to sort of test and tighten up my 4 day split I plan to start in April following boards.

225x20 squats? After the 365? That’s awesome!!
Taking a sledgehammer to the tire is on my to do list. My gym’s got one but I think it’s got to get a little nicer before we get to play with it.
A girl who bakes you goodies and supports the bulk? definitely a keeper.
So do you have another clinical or are you all set until boards? I’m so jealous…this semester BLOWS.
[/quote]
Thanks! The sledge sucks. I thought I had decent conditioning. It’s amazing how much more upper body conditioning takes out of you than lower body.
Agreed on the lady!
As for clinicals, I get a one week break and then I start my final 8 week rotation. Can’t wait. This rotation has damn near killed me in many ways, and I will certainly NOT be sad to see it go. And keep chuggin along. It’ll be over before you realize it!
Short one today. Would have done more stuff but my little brother partially dislocated (subluxed) his R shoulder so I had to tend to him and make sure he didn’t pass out. Got some good work in though.
Squat
Bar x10
145x5
235x5
285x3
325x2
375x2
415x0 <–got out of groove and right side spotter grabbed it too soon and almost tipped me sideways
415x1 <–right side spotter bumped it again instead of letting me grind it. Nearly killed him, but I’m counting it.
Axle Press
135x5
175x3
225x3 <–SO FAST. Best this has felt in ages. Went up so fast I almost lost it.
DONE.
In order to straighten myself out and kinda dial in my 4 day/week split that I’ll go to after boards, I’ll train following a similar pattern to what Kalle uses, Overhead Press and Accessory this Monday, Squat and Accessory Tuesday, Bench and Accessory Thurs, Deadlift and Events next Saturday.
End of the week may be dicey due to my girlfriend moving into a house with her roommate. Going to have to help carry the heavy stuff, so I may have to train early one of those days in order to get it in before I get wiped out from moving. But, the extra day to train means I can spread the work out a bit and get more conditioning in, which will be good too.
Augh, wtf is up with the right spotter? I’d be pissed, for sure. 415 is super solid.
Presses are impressive too. It’s always crazy to me when people can press overhead what I can only do with my legs.
I have a question for you—how do you feel about stones and spine health? I love stones, but it freaks me out because you basically have to put your spine at risk to get it to the platform. I know it’s all part of the game, but it still freaks me out that I’m going to do some permanent damage.

Cho,
People overhead press what I do with my legs, I know how you feel.
Regarding the stones, I think it’s one of those things that can certainly hurt you (what can’t?), but shouldn’t cause permanent damage if properly prepared for. If your hip mobility is good enough, it’s essentially an ATG squat with a deadlift loading pattern (in my mind at least). You can keep a relatively neutral spine on the pick without too much difficulty until the massive stones. As for the load, I’d say it depends on the height of the platform/bar. If you explode the hips properly, I can’t see how you put the spine in a seriously dangerous loading pattern.
Now keep in mind I’m saying this with the assumption that a person had trained enough to build a relatively good strength base before starting the stones. That extra muscle can help maintain the spine even in a slightly flexed posture.
As for the extension that I see some of the shorter competitors doing to load, that should distribute the force along the facets and essentially spread out the strain. You might fracture something if you load a stupid weight but the chances of you blowing a disc anteriorly are so low that I wouldn’t worry much.
And as always, video is your best friend. Good video position and good spotters are what got my technique down to where I feel pretty good about my spinal position throughout the pick and load.
perfect sense, thank you! I basically just need to stop being baby…and i’m sorry to tell you that as the only PT to be doing PLing/Strongman that I know, you are officially my moral compass.
