Gojira

WOW Gojira…

You are better built than 80% percent of my lifting buddies.

MONSTER job.

And I thought that you ain’t got the body to support your flaming radioactive mouth on the board…Silly me.

Take a Japanese person and ask him to say Godzilla in English. There’s your answer.

Ok, more trivia questions:

*What is King Ghidorah’s name in some of the English dubbed movies?

*What is Godzilla’s son’s name? (No, it’s not “Pudge” or “ET.”)

*Where did the name Gojira come from?

The Three Headed Monster
There’s another name that was used. Some of the English movie titles used “Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster” but that’s not the name I’m thinking of.

Minya
Good. That’s the name used in the English dub. Do you know the name used in the Japanese versions? (i.e. analogous to ‘Godzilla’ vs. ‘Gojira’.)

and I believe it means something like Gorilla Whale in Japanese
Good job! According to rumor, the name is an amalgam of gorira (gorilla) and kujira (whale).

Monster Zero and Minilla.[/quote]

<Ding, Ding, Ding>
Pookie gets the prize again!

Ok, no gold star this time. But you do get the radioactive breath blast in the face!

Good job!

Reminds me of the time when we’d hired Japanese guy at our warehouse. He was put in charge of supplies.

A week later, people had hardly seen him around. My boss and I went to look for him.

Suddenly, he jumps out from behind a large crate and yells “SUPPLIES!!!”

Good theory, except the name “Gojira” was coined before “Godzilla.”

For more fun, have a Japanese person say “Rob Lowe.”

That’s pure comedic gold right there. I’m stealing that one.

Damn it. I made this post to possibly get Gojira to post some more pictures.

Oh well, a conversation about Godzilla movies is still entertaining.

So, which movie is your favorite (question is directed at anyone really)?

I was just at blockbuster and was really thinking about renting a Godzilla movie, but after a quick search through the isles, I didn’t find any.

Your intentions were good SWR.

If we voted on favourite avatars I’m pretty sure who’d win.

Me of course. Then maybe that gojira chick, she’s quite buff.

Well, she did, but apparently she hasn’t yet caught on to the fact that we want the non-scaly ones.

Big radio-active monsters can be a little slow sometimes…

You should go complain!

Did you ask, because sometimes they put them in the strangest places.

A favorite? That’s like asking me to choose a favorite child.

The movies from the 60’s and 70’s are not my favorites as they are rather silly and well, kinda “rubbery”.

The movies after Godzilla 1985 are much better. Especially starting with Godzilla 2000 (this should definitely be at Blockbuster).

I also really enjoyed Final Wars (2004). It’s like Godilla meets the Matrix. There are so many things uh, borrowed, from other sci-fi movies that have been incorporated in this movie, it’s fun to sit and point them out. This was supposed to be the last Godzilla movie, but they said the same thing about Godzilla 1985. I expect another movie in five or ten years. They’ll wake the big guy up again.

Okay Pookie, who did they originally use the name Gojira for?

This an easy one: how did they create Godzilla’s roar?

Side note - I have my e-mail at work set up so that Godzilla roars everytime I get a message. Beats the hell outta “you’ve got mail!”.

One of Toho’s press agents who was a fatty.

They used a glove to rub the strings of a contrabass.

I hope you have either:

A) No coworkers within hearing distance.

B) Very little incoming email.

C) Headphones.

Bzzzt. WRONG! It was actually a big tough looking guy who worked on the TOHO lot. They adopted the name for their new monster.

None of the above.

Question 4 of this quiz disagrees with you:

http://www.gojistomp.org/quiz/quiz1.htm

Now, who am I gonna beleive? Someone who likes Godzilla enough to use it as a pseudonym, or someone who invests hundreds of hours in building a web site dedicated to the big grey guy? Hmmmm?

mind to share where we can find the roar thing for email>? that would be great at my work, thanks!

I’d tend to believe this guy:

How Gojira (Godzilla in Japanese) was named? According to Eiji Tsuburaya, the creator of Godzilla: “At the time, there was a tough-looking guy working on the Toho lot. His nickname was ‘Gojira’. We just adopted it for our monster. It caught on and certainly has immortalized him!”

I’m sure there could be different interpretations of this. I think the important point is that it was a nickname for a person before they adopted it for the monster.

And you cheated. Looking it up on the web…tsk, tsk.

You can find wav files of it all over the web (for free). I’m sure you could even find it as a ring tone for your cell phone.
