Could be. I had never heard the press agent story. All the stories I had read referred to what sounded like a laborer-type that worked on the lot.
There is a great CNN Interview that they did with the original Godzilla actor. He talked about how the suit weighed something like 200 pounds and he had to carry a car battery between his legs. He was burned and injured multiple times while making the movies.

Yeah, you may be right. He talks about what pussies the new actors are and how easy they’ve got it.
To play a tough monster, you had to be a tough actor back in those days.
