Thanks Mort.
Never say never mate
I’m a few months off 42 and I’m not going down quietly! I still wanna hit that 250kg squat, and easily pull it again.
Ho boy sky is the limit in here…
I’ll stay around just to see it happen
Feeling a little flat today, maybe the few pints of Bulmers last nigh, hmmmm!
No point being a pussy about it, so on we go.
Crank up some Nirvana and get this shit done!

Well. 3rd week down, lovin’ the 5x5 squats. Volume isn’t too bad for all the extra fluff. Not sure on weight, haven’t weighed myself since the start, haha, def need to eat more, I have been eating a shit ton, bloody hungry all the time. I reckon this would be a good program to run for the 6 weeks, break, then reset again for a few cycles. It’s very similar to other 5x5 programs I’ve run in the past.

A lot of people have had great success with BtM.
And you like it too, just remember to eat.
Snatch grip wide or just slightly wider than normal?
Oh shit didn’t realize you were doing BtM!! That’s such a fun program
@painter27 wider than normal, pinkies on nthe smooth, not quite snatch grip
@muskratlifts yep I’m quite enjoying it!
Hey I think I mentioned being interested in teaching a while ago and got some solid advice off ya.
Since then I picked up a job as a primary/secondary maths tutor and have been enjoying it. For the first time what I’m doing feels right.
I kinda addressed all my previous doubts just like you said like not being up to scratch on the curriculum so now I’m looking into applying places.
I dunno if you are familiar with Victoria but do you know if any uni in particular is known for having good teaching courses? Not much info online but apparently ACU and Deakin are good
Good work mate, def an honourable and fun career. It’s great your enjoying it, don’t stress about the curriculum, knowing that comes later, and the mongrels change it constantly anyway.
Not sure on uni’s in Vic that offer decent courses, from what I’ve seen of student teachers here, they are all fairly similar, even the online courses. I did mine all online, with heaps of prac time in classes (28 weeks). Basically do whatever fits your needs, some people can afford to be in lectures all week, for me, that would have bored me shitless, plus I had a family to provide for, so I worked 6 days a week (driving trucks and buses) while studying part time for 6 years, doing the 3rd semester each year to catch up. Tough slog, but have me the flexibility to study and earn a crust. Then my annual leave i could use for pracs and still be paid.
I say this to all to all of the student teachers that come through, do as much time as you can in front of a class while at uni and you have another teacher to bounce things off and save you if it goes pear shape, it sets you up in a better spot by miles.
Badass journey. Might go for something a bit more chill myself.
Once I got back into things I remembered more than I thought. I started with VCE maths because o figured if I knew the hardest stuff than that encompasses all the stuff below it. Went pretty well.
I grab the curriculum online. It’s vague but it’s enough to guide me in my work. I work with a couple of ahead students but mostly struggling. Seems a lot of students falls through the cracks even among prestigious expense private schools.
Ive gotten a bit of everything: Dyslexia/special needs, mature age etc. but I’m sure the 1to1 setting is quite different to large classes.
I think various courses list the hours of practical placement they get students so will go back and see.
Thanks big fella
This thread gives me serious Squat envy! Putting in some quality work.
@guineapig take your time mate, I didn’t start uni until 30, so it’s never too late.
@jpmason1985 thanks mate, it’s feeling a little light compared to my usual, however I’m def feeling it.

Well. Bit of an unplanned few days off, flat out all week, excursion, sports day, stayed late for an entry meeting, then the pub another night, then visited the old dear (300km away). I walked down and up the many many large stone steps yesterday at Alligator Gorge, with a backpack, camera and tripod, felt like I’d done a squat session.

Went and checked out the Pichi Richi at Quorn while up at the old dears too. Freaking hot in there! At least the heat kept the flies off me, they are insane already!
