Goin' Kickin' and Screamin'

Throwing light shots is a great idea. If you are not already doing it, I would recommend doing full throws with the lighter shots also. Glenn Thompson said somewhere that he trains almost exclusively with a 15lb shot. The boost from being in a meet makes the 16er seem no different when he’s competing.

And now for something completely off subject…
My wife is the manager of AAFEES at the local military installation. PX/BX/class 6, shopette, for you old GIs. Her class 6 (liquor store) leads the world in sales for it’s size.

So Dan Aykroyd decided to launch the sell of his new vodka in class 6 stores here today. “Crystal Head Vodka”. More importantly he gave $5000 to the local “Wounded Warrior” program. He posed for pictures with the troops (and sold lots of vodka). Wife ate lunch with him, said he’s super nice guy.

I love Dan Aykroyd. Sounds like a great experience. A vodka and oj sounds good right about now.

Harry- I am a huge fan and supporter of the Wounded Warrior program. In fact, I am often sporting their gear when enter the gym. Its a great, great program that fortunately has grown from its infancy to do more and more marvelous things for our men and women!

Sorry, no training to report. All Friday night worked the Sheriff’s Rodeo, Special needs kids night. Diet consisted of about 20 corn dogs, cotton candy, taffy, lot of cold drinks, and assorted other goodies kids love. Saturday was the regular rodeo, improved my diet to bar-b-que, slaw, and beer. After the events were over, broke out the Jack Daniels with a bunch of the boys.
Got an invite to an all-comers Field and Track meet this Saturday. Not sure what weights I’ll be throwing but it’s real near so I said I’ll compete. The next weekend, 29 May, off to Wash DC with the old geezers.
Hope I’ll do some actual lifting to report soon. Guess I could count the beers and Jack bottle as curls. See ya.

Yesterday, 6 mile leisurely stroll + maybe another 1.5 mi added on. Post Office wants to stop delivery on Saturdays so they’ve stop hiring. Means we’re working 10 hour days to make up the difference. Yeah, great if you want the money, sucks if you’ve got a life. Hard to get pumped for the gym after walkin all day. God bless strong coffee! Off today this week so didn’t have to hurry at the gym last night. Wife was walkin out of the gym last night as I was walking in. Hit on her but no go. Losing my touch.

Lateral raises the way someone linked a vid of some well known bodybuilding doing them. Almost like db cleans but the elbows arcing up from the sides with the hands and forearms pointed down. Yeah, that’s clear as mud. Anyway, really like them and feel them on the outer delt.

Shot and disc throwing, 16# and 2k. Think I may have to throw those this Saturday so wanted to get use to the weight, again.

Dug 6 post hole, cemented in 6"x6"x10’s. Building the wife another pavillion out back. Recruiting some relatives to help finish the work.

Hope to hit the gym tomorrow night after work and maybe get in a little light throwing Thursday then rest up til Saturday.

Just catching up, Harry, lots of cool stuff going on. Aykroyd always seemed like a class act to me.

So, if you can throw a 16# shot put 45’, how far could you throw a golf ball? Try it some time, you may be surprised at how close it is to the 16 pounder.

Thats some damn fine lifting after all that walking.
