Really inspiring Harry. You better broaden your throwing horizons with all that bling round your neck. National/International stuff coming up?
Thanks for all the volunteer work. It makes a difference.
OP, The Alabama Senior Olympics are a qualifier for the Nationals next year in Houston. The really big fish will be there. My next meets will be covering a larger area and a lot higher calipher of thrower will be at them.
Story of my life us42. My legs get totally ripped and get stronger but never seem to get bigger. Even when I gain weight my legs stay the same. When I squat I feel it mainly in the hips though.
Give Jimmy our love, brother Barry, and take a little for yourself, too.
Steve, I was in the military while my boys grew up. One of the few regrets I have about my military service is how much time I missed of their growing up. That they turned out good is entirely the fault of the wife. I tried my best to spoil hell out of them when I was home.
Threw shot tonight. Working on a new/old approach. Not 5/3/1 so yawl try to stay with me here. Carl will know what I’m talking about.
If you can throw a 16# shot put 45’ you should be able to throw an 8# 90’, yes? No, you can’t. Your arm isn’t conditioned to move that fast. I’m not getting the “spread” I should in different weights. Rule of thumb is +2’ per pound the lighter the shot gets. I can throw a 16# 38’ standing and a 13.2 around 40. Based on the 2’ pp rule of thumb I should be able to stand throw around 43.5’ with the the 13.2. My arm ain’t moving fast enough. What to do? The obvious answer is to get stronger. Working under the assumption that I’m strong enough I need to teach the arm to move faster. Enter light weight throwing. I starting my throws with a 4k shot, then a 5k, finally the 6k. Today, after 10 standing throws each with the 4 & 5K shots I hit a standing 42’ with the 6k. Damn East Germans were smart. Going to keep on this method and see what I can get. I must say a lot of throwers don’t subscribe to this method.
Well, if you made it through all that, thanks. If not, I forgive you. Weights tomorrow. Rodeos this Sat so some more to do on that.
