Harry, that 315x8 jumps out at me every time you post it. Every since I 1st saw it in your log, I knew I wanted to be able to do that. I’m still not there, but getting closer.
Thanks for the motivation and great work!

great work cousin! i’m very interested to what a difference the new technique makes to your shot distance.
would the same change in technique (I have no idea what you guys are talking about most of the time) help the stone as well?
You ever move the bench weight up and do doubles or triples?? A few sets of 365x2??
Skip, the way you’re making progress you’ll be getting it soon.
MJ, the rotation, if (big if) done right adds more distance but has a higher percent of going wrong. As I’m coming to it so late in the game it remains to be seen how much it helps me. So far it looks promising. Funny you should ask about the stone. All highland, throwers who don’t have a T&F background think if they can just learn to rotate it’ll fly out there. Hard to do with a stone because of keeping the odd shaped stone against your neck when spinning.
Steve, couple of weeks ago I did singles w/355 for speed. Couple of months ago I think I did some 375 x 2. Right now I’m just trying to maintain and concentrate on having more energy for the throws.
Tonight,
Discus
6 fornt throws
6 power position
18 Full form
Shot
6 Upright fornt
6 half turn
18 full concentrating on long right leg out of back

I do that too when I can’t lift somethin’… piss on it… lol!

me too. that’s why I’m “pissing and moaning” all the time. can’t lift it
Postal Service appears to be dedicated to keeping me from training properly. Bag all backed, gonna hit the gym right after work. Did hit the gym right after work, just after 2.5 hours extra work.
Trying a new kind of lift. Not real sure I’m doing them right. Twice now I’ve heard/read about the effectiveness of the close grip snatch. First time was from a pro highlander who won the worlds last year and the second time was in one of the articles here. Did a little experimenting on the “close grip” part and finally settled on slightly less than shoulder width. My dip part of the snatch leaves a whole lot to be desired.

I’ve never done close grip snatches (too much training energy taken up by other stuff), but it seems to me that what happens at the top is not that important. In fact, lighter weights caught with minimal dip might give the most training effect as far as throws are concerned. Unless you are doing ultra weight events, the weights you throw are lighter and move faster than any close grip snatch. I think CGS is a good choice. And to quote an old throwing cliche–May you always be standing far from where your implement lands.
Training looks good, Harry. That sounds like a lotta weight to throw over your head with a narrow grip.
See your point Carl. was as heavy as it was awkward at first Jack. I think I’m gonna lower the weight and bring the hands in some.
After work,
28# for distance
56# for distance
42# for heigth (spinning)
10 throws, 22# stone, braemar
Real quick, maybe 200 meter swim
grilling steaks for supper
I guess it had to happen, unavoidable really.
While I’m doing the steaks, the wife approached me, “I’ve found a new routine.”
I felt a lump in my throat but had to ask, “Is it better than mine?”
“Not better, it just meets my needs more.”
“Whose is it? Not that damn 5/3/1, is it?”
“No, it’s one I’ve come up with myself.”
“Less weight, more cardio?”
“No, heavier weights actually. More volume, too.”
“Oh, so it’s bigger than mine?”
“Remember, your’s will have always been the first.”
Actually the wife’s really getting into the lifting. Yawl have a good weekend.

Thanks!
so, the wife is going to start smolov or german volume training?
I can only imagine the accident that would happen if I tried CG snatches. Nice work.
She adding some more lifts and dropping some others from the basic routine I made up for her, MJ. It’s too painful to talk about. Who knows what’s next, oly lifting?

yard work, huge lunch, shot and disc throwing at local school this afternoon. Comp this coming Sat so I’ll try and get one more heavy lift day in and couple of more throwing days.
Edit: Threw shot nad disc in the evening. Longest throws haven’t gone up but my average throws definitely have and are more consistantly hitting around the same distance.
Nice work Harry. Looks like the wifey is going to sneak up and catch you soon. Do you have her a kilt yet?
Wilson, I’m worried. I think she’s bulked up to almost 100#. They do sell some cute looking short kilts, though.

Last pre meet heavy lifting. Swim tomorrow and throw Wednesday.
as always, i can’t wait to see the results and the pitchers from your meet!
Can’t wait to hear about the meet, Harry. Good luck, not that you need any!
Kick Ass Cheif!
Thanks all. Went for a nice slow 1500m swim afterwork. Light throws tomorrow. Getting some conflicts on Highland game dates. Been ask to chaparone on the “Honor Flight” again and the annual sheriff’s rodeos coming up. It’ll all work itself out.
