My apologies to all for not answering and keeping up with the threads. I’ve been lifting, swimming, and throwing a lot plus eating out and at relatives. My kitchen is in some phase of remodeling. My nephew, the contractor, had the cojones to ask me if I perferred Deep sea sandstone or Sahara sandstone tile. My enthusiasm with the nuances of sandstone caused him to yell “Auntie, Uncle’s giving me that look again!” Anyway, I’m assured the kitchen will be done “real soon”. “Real soon” being the cajon equivlant of manana to a mexican or domani to an Italian.
While they’ve been working on my kitchen I’ve been helping with a project at the vets home. Just finished up.
And just to make sure my days completely full I’ve been throwing with some of the local High Schools. I hit the gym at 22:00 the other night.
Enough complaining, weather has turned gorgeous for the last couple of days. Breaking out the shorts for work tomorrow so gonna show off the white legs for a couple of days. Gonna try and catch up with all over the next couple of days. Since I’v been out of touch several days I expect everyone’s added at least doubled their worst lift. Be back with yawl real soon.

ah, to wear shorts to the office again… I used to work for a super laid back software company where shorts and tshirts were the uniform year’round. Now I work in an office full of tight-asses. I hate long pants as much as I hate ties.

Steve, here’s my story, it’s sad but true. It’s about a sport that I once knew…Tryin to throw a lot more this year than last. I’m currently trying to resolve a minor paradox in my training. Getting stronger AIN’T making my shot and discus throws longer. My highland throws are getting higher, longer. My purely self delusional conclusion is I just need to improve my form and the next throw will be the one where it all clicks.

Thanks guys. I’d go to Mr Darby first. For his size and weight his throws are nothing short of amazing (little marathon@%$#&**!&^!*!).
My highland throws are moving up, it’s my T&F not getting there. I know all the theory and what I should be doing, have probably wasted as much time studying the throws as anyone. Just ain’t getting there.
WARNING!! lame ass excuse coming: My glory days of throwing (where I threw the shot, but not disc, farther than Mr John, btw) were a bit different than now. I’m a southpaw, left handed.
When I decided to take the geriatric throwing circuit by storm I discovered I couldn’t rack the shot against my neck or move my left arm back far enough to throw the discus. Same reason I hold the plates instead of bar when I squat, let my damn left arm hang when I spin, and am having fits with the sheaf toss.
Can’t backstroke swimmin no mo, either. Decided I wanted to throw things antway so at 50 I became a right handed thrower. First year was comical as hell. Anyway, left arm works fine for lifting but don’t know if I can ever get the fast twitchers in the right to move fast enough to make bigger shot and discus throws.
So, won’t never set the world record but what the hell I’m enjoying competing and doing pretty good. I’ll just get some cheese to go with my whine and keep on practicing.
Went swimming in the river after work. Still real chilly and runnin kind of fast but figure I got about 500m in.
Jesus, Hel, I can’t believe you switched throwing arms. I’m a southpaw as well and I can’t even throw like a girl with my right. That is awesome.
