Rolled out of bed this morning, made sure everything was still functioning. Went down the hall and started the coffee maker. Took a mug out onto the deck to wait on sunrise. Labs came to keep me company so we headed through the trees to the river. Still cool out and the water sure hasn’t warmed up yet but said what the hell. Shucked down to my birthday suit and dove in with the dogs. Only did about a 100m out and then back in but felt great. Back to the deck, dried off, another cup of joe. Began to evaluate the state of my life as is my wont to do this time of year. Added up all the bad and all the good and it ain’t even close.
Weather is simply beautiful out. Going to go throw heavy stuff with a bunch of guys at 0900. Tonight, whole lot of family and friends, zydeco, good food and good drink. As today is 3/20 my totally unexpected 55th year of life seems to be off to a good start. Thanks to you guys for sharing the last couple with me.
A birthday swim in your birthday suit sounds appropriate. Happy B-Day, Harry, and I wish you many more to come.
Jack
Harry, reading your stories is a priviledge. Thank you for sharing. Happy Birthday, and I have no doubt there will be many more.
Happy Birthday Harry, here’s to 55 more good ones.
Happy birthday Harry. Eat some cake for me.
Happy Birthday Harry. May you always throw far.
Happy B’day…and i bet that water was COLD!
Thanks for all the well wishs. Had a great time yesterday and last night. So far my season schedule for T&F and highlands is Apr 10,24, May 2,8, Jun 5,19, July 20, and then open til Oct 2 with a few maybe meets in there.
Clip from yesterdays practice. Tripod was well away from the throwing. Though I’d like to show you one of my great performances we were using a very heavy pole and I was just happy to set the damn pick. It were great fun though.
Happy birthday, Harry!
Happy belated birthday Harry. Looks like you had a blast! Love the caber work… wow
That caber toss looks dangerous for the person throwing and anyone nearby. It must be tough getting your hands under the thing to get it off the ground. Fun to watch (from a distance).
Harry you know how to live.
Hope you had a great Birthday, here is to 55 more.

Thanks Steve, maybe I can get me one of those reality shows, “Thrower’s Bootcamp, only for those with iron balls”.
Hope everythings going good Art. Tried not to stay gone to long.
Thanks Null.
Darby? Carl Darby…rings a bell. Yeah, now I remember. Marathon runner lookin dude dabbles in the throws and oly liftin a bit. I had to thrower the 16# and 2k in that meet. 16# wasn’t bad but the 2k feels like a serving platter after the 1.5k. So, where you been man? You back to throwing? Couple of things just stream of conscience. Senior olympics, Houston, Tx, 2011. Qualify in your state this year. Case you haven’t been keepin up, Jim Wetenhall just throught the 56# weight 10.55m to break Tom Gages 55-59 record. Keep in touch.

Yep, that’s me. I think in a past life I was short and thick and died while trying to run a marathon. In this life I’m long and lean and afflicted with the desire to throw heavy things around. Karma, I guess.
I didn’t lift or throw much from July through December due to car repairs, programming projects, and being sick. I’ve been able to train consistently since January, and am back up to 92kg snatch, 108kg c&j, 14.5m shot, and 17m weight. Haven’t thrown discus or hammer yet this year.
I hear you on the 2k discus and 16lb shot. Those things are monsters.
If you are planning to be there, I will find a way to be in Houston for the Senior Olympics, even though I once swore to never be in Houston during the summer again (a promise already broken when my then 16 year old ran away from home.) Our state games are in October this year. Plenty of time to get back in shape.
Happy belated birthday elder cousin! Looks like you had a good birthday week. we should all be so lucky as to celebrate like you do!
Thanks MJ. Carl, I’ll be competing in our state Senior Olympics on May 2. As of now I plan on making Houston next year. Nothing like getting with Steve Patridge on his home turf. Last I talked to him he was a “lean” 325.
It snowed here Monday and was 74 and beautiful today. 50 something tomorrow. This weather is getting like one of those Saturday night SciFi flicks.

Dammit… late to the party. Happy belated birthday fella, loved the videos and the photos.
Training is looking good too. I need to take some time out and re-evaluate my life too I think. Been going balls to the wall for the last year, need to suck back and reload.
