Thanks Joe. Shoulder feels it today. The lifting this evening actually made it feel better, at least til I wake up tomorrow.
Math, there is something primal about playin in the mud.
Steve, introduced to the Kugelstrossen (shot put) at Heibronn Grundschule (middleschool),Deutschland, age 13.
Did it and the discus in high school, here in Alabama. Was supposed to do it in college if my college career had been longer. Took it up again when I was 32 at Rammstein AB, Ge and threw on the Air Force Team. Threw off and on til I was 35 and then not again til 50.
Punnyguy, I recieved one of several, what I considered to be, very dignified wounds, in the left HIP. An older brothers informed his young son while watching Forrest Gump “that’s one of the places they got your uncle.” To this day I get to hear his rendition of “I got shot in the buttocks” everytime I see him.
Jack, a program based on eatin wings?
Art, Always good to hear from you. Me and mine are doing great. Sorry I’m not getting around to the other threads like I should. Wern’t you getting ready for a comp?
Wife’s making the dinner’s gettin colder look, so
Tonight

Thought I’d show you a picture of my balls. Or at least one of them. Steely’s fault. He set the humor bar age.
Thanks Kevin.
Steve, nothing humbling. Going purely for speed. I’m not going to get any stronger in a couple of weaks so trying to work on the explosiveness. Snatches were only 135 singles, trying to yank them over head as fast as I could. Fast cleans only went to 185. Same thing, floor up, fast as I could.
Thanks Pete, I get inspired reading everyone’s stuff on here. The weight being moved is really irrelevent. Some of the stuff you guys have to put up with, overcome, or have overcome and still lift is truly inspirational to me.
PG, hip dude? That sounds old even to me. Don’t give up your day job for the comedy circuit:)
Ah, Mr Newland, welcome back. First Highland game is 20 Feb and first T&F meet is 6 Mar.
Weather was great today and suppose to turn crappy so got home and threw til it turned dark.

Steve, I’ve got enough room and I throw towards the tree line, away from the house. Mainly do the power postion cause spinning on grass vs the cement circle is totally different.
MJ, jury rigged me a cheap set of standards from pvc pipe. I’m more worried about my form than heigth though. Trick is to keep tension on the chain the whole pull. Any loosening of the tension from a jerking motion and you’re lucky to get it higher than you’re head.
That’s big, iron, balls, thank you, PG.
Crappy, wet weather. Back in the gym tonight.

Three day weekend starting tomorrow. Looks like rain may cancel highland practice we scheduled for Sat. If not throwing, in the gym.
Saturday
It were very wet. It were very cold. There was standing water everywhere. Rational people stayed indoors watching the tube. What’d I do? Got with 6 other guys and played in the mud. Most fun I’ve had outside of bed so far this year. Highland practice. 5 others showed up. 4 had their “A” status and one’s near going pro. Ranged in ages from 26 to 54(guess who?). Nearest to me was 43. I might of been slightly bigger than one of the guys but all the rest were near or over 300#. We hit every event. Got some much needed work in on the caber and sheaf toss. Caber was a 100#er, 16’ long, mid size as cabers go. The sheaf started weighing 20# but after a few landings was soaked and had to weigh double that.
Covered in mud and soaked to the skin we finished the day off at a nearby rib and wing place. Last night soaked the old bones in the tub for a long time.
Notes of interest. One of the guys does strongman training and has all the equipment at his farm. Planning to start an annual contest. Got an invite. We’ll see how that pans out.
The highland game I’ll be competing in on 20 Feb has a women’s category and so far 3 women are signed up. I’ve never seen them compete so it’ll be interesting (unless they beat my throws)
This morning, 0600
Ready to hit the gym hard, leap eagerly from my warm bed, and… ah shit!
Right trap, hips, inside thighs, all tighter en hell. Half pot of coffee and some stretching, lot of “So you want to hang with the younguns” smirks from the wife and we finally mede it to the gym. Good part is, using the aches and pains as a map tells me what muscles I need to hit.

Great stories as always. I bet you showed those younguns a thing or two.
Early request from the peanut gallery for pics of the Highland female competitors. Not being a dirty ol’ man (although I am), but agree with you that it’ll be interesting.
