Along with the pix was an invite to a highland meet in Greenville in May. I’ve cut and pasted a part of the message here. I think this is pretty cool.
…first and foremost, I must mention that we’ve moved the date to Memorial Day Weekend. For 2010 the Games will be held on Saturday, May 29th. Why would we change the date you might ask?
We have been granted a Royal Patronage from His Royal Highness, Prince Edward of England. This is a rare and prestigious honor for the City of Greenville and our Highland Games.
Prince Edward will be on hand to watch the Games and I believe he will be present at the awards ceremony.
etc…
Definitely gonna make that one. Love to medal there. That’d be a conversation piece, “why yes, I think I remember getting this one from the Prince Eddie.”
Trying something different in my work outs. Kind of a push day/pull day type thing. Trying to hit body parts more often that way.

She keeps the list of all the relatives, it’s on a spread sheet. Even though I’m workin my ass off I love the season. Sorry, I’ll grow up someday. Naw. [/quote]
Strong work. When you get your medal from Prince Edward, are you going to dedicate it to William Wallace? :).
that’s pretty awesome Harry. I’d go, if I could do any of that shit…
When you get your medal, look at him with surprise and then turn and start running yelling “The British are coming…the British are coming”
Well that is what I would do anyway…lol
Fine looking work here, Hel.
Nice work Harry, on the Xmas stuff and the training. Ya think the Prince will understand coonass? Glad y’all had the snow. Thankfully it was cold rain up here in the north south

Can’t Jack. The little guy on the right,(6’6",245,I think),is William Wallace. 41 years old. He’s sure to be at the meet. The cutey bending over next to him is Ted, turns 50 this year. Brings the best moonshine around to the meets. I’ve got good playmates.
Great-Scott!

Poured all day but at least only had to work 9 hrs. Wimped out on going to the pool. Couldn’t take any more water. Came home lookin like a wet dog. Time for a hot bath, bout 3 fingers of Jameson’s 12 year Irish whiskey and a San Cristobal Clasico cigar. Off tomorrow so hittin the gym early. Going to try and catch up on all the threads.
Nice work, working in the rain sucks.
Sounds like a good post work out protocol.
I need get back to the pool too.
Big time SLDL’s, hel.
Are those games in Greenville, SC or down in little old Greenville, AL?
Joe, SC, too bad. I’ve got to do some research but apparantly there’s some direct historical connection betwee them and the crown.
Going to see how this works. Same lifts,3 days apart. Cutting out some accessories, will change around a couple of the lifts but same body part.
Today, Push

Been reading everyone’s threads today. You guys all seems to have sure clearly defined lifting programs. I must confess I don’t know what a lot of you are talking about sometimes with the MEs and when to take a deload and chosing percentages and why. Kinda makes my workouts seems haphazard. Think I may need to do a lot of studing. Til then, just consider me like the old uncle who farts and you hit the dog.

Nah. You’ve built quite a bit of strength doing what you’ve done.

Agreed. Doing trumps thinkin’ too much in the majority of cases.
Hel,
That’s a lot of 10 lb plates on that bar!
Are the Highland Games in Greenville SC? On Grandfather Mt.? For years I wanted to run that marathon. I kept planning to do it, but just never made it happen. As I recall it finishes at the Highland games on the last day around noon.
One of the toughest races I ever did was the Rattlsnake 50K in West Virginia. Over 5000 ft of gain on that course as I recall. And they do NOT believe in switchbacks in W V.
Woops, I’m babbling.
Nice work, Hel!
Did you hear anyone saying, “where the hell are all the 10 lb plates?”. Your workouts aren’t haphazard. Your doing whats called ‘instinctual training’. Makes it sound better doesn’t it??
Yup Math, that’s Grandfather Mt. Still need to look up the connection between the royals and the city.
Made it to the pool after work;
2000m variable speed
Todays intake:
2 brownies
1 cube fudge
1 cupcake
4 choc chip cookies straight from the oven
1 cup egg nog
1 coke in a christmas ornament shaped container.
Consumable gifts
2 bottles Argentine wine (drank at lunch. Naw, just seeing if you’re paying attention)
1 3# block of Dubliner Irish Cheese
1 bottle Pinch Scotch
Yes, the ladies on my route are in full christmas cooking mode. I get to be their tester. Tough job, but…you know the rest.
Doing what feels right at the time is probably the best training, wish I could commmit to that.
Hel sent me some training footage of him,
when he was in deep cover over seas.
It was super 8mm and I did the conversion at work.
strangely he dresses like the charming albino… in some clips…
where he looses it and breaks the light Dude had a temper…
Its actually Ricky Bruch- total badassery.
and somehow I think of Harry training this crazy, but in more polite
southern fashion.
You got my house bugged kmc? I only watch “the Soul is Greater than the World” bout once a week. His bio is even more over the top “the Gladiator’s Battle”. Quick summary for those don’t know. Ricky Bruch, Swedish, one time co holder WR Discus, 1972 Bronze Olys, quit, came back but due to fights with certain members of the Swedish governing body wasn’t allowed to compete. The documentary was made of his training where he then went out and threw a lot farther than anyone else in sweden and most of the world. Kinda/sorta appropriate for this forum as he was in his late thirties and considered over the hill.

Forgot to load up my gym gear. Knew if I went home to get it I wasn’t comin back out again so just took off my shirt and lifted in my mailman clothes. Shoes weren’t real good for the deads, too soft.
On my way to another 12 hours now. Least I don’t starve out there.
