I love reading this thread -it’s like a slice of Americana, but just the good kind.
Training in your mailman clothes after drinking 2 bottles of Argentine wine at lunch (…just kidding); now, that’s badass.

Good training, Harry. Not sure what a hand snatch is, but I think I saw one in a little specialty shop in Greenwich Villiage.
Geez Harry!! You are hammering away big guy! Hope its warmer there than it is up here. I’m stoked about Grandfather Mountian. I’m going to mark my calender. It will give me a good excuse to visit my college buddies that never left.

For some reason this made me think of “Animal House.”
Harry, it is a pleasure reading your log… Great work!
Can’t think of discus without thinking of Mr. Oerter. 4 in a row. Godly. The best to ya harry.
Thanks all. I’ve been trying to kick up the intensity just a little. Jack, first you get some KY Jelly…suppose to be hang snatch. Barry, I was surprized at how much it affect me when Al died.
Went to the gym last night. Didn’t get the legs done the other day. Time to try them box squat things. No box, used a bench.
135,225wu
335x4,4,4,4,4 to sitting on a bench
sngle leg squat/alt leg elavated
135x8 (each) x 3
weight twist
135x max x 3
Like the seated squats. Not sure if I’m doing them right. Doin a little lean forward to start the stand up portion. Need to measure the bench. And taking a chance a sounding real ghey, my wife says those sweats are way to big and baggy. Only she would care.
My phone records in the .3g2 format and the sound never comes through when I upload. Just to set the mood, while doing these lifts I was singing in a beautiful operatic baritone and farting Beethoven’s 5th.
those were some pretty big cleans you were doing the other day. sorry i haven’t been around much. one of the hardest things about box squats is not rocking. it takes some practice. you have to really concentrate on sitting back and feeling the hamz and cheez. to avoid rocking, when you sit back and hit the box, do not let the weight go back, hold it wherever it is when you first touch the box. That way, you can lift straight up from there. Actually, pete and the MO Mule have prolly done a ton more box squatting than me, so hopefully they’ll chime in. Good Training!
Good point, MJ. I was purposely sitting back to take the stretch reflex out of my legs but I see what you mean about how I got rockin’.
Thanks and yes I’m smiling. Have a blessed holiday season and toast a few for me.

Thats real talent… and they dont let you sing at family get togethers? Great squatting
One of the great injustices in the world, Wilson. I’m off tomorrow so hit the gym hard tonight. Been having really good workouts latey. One of those nights when the weight felt good, in the groove, years almost done so had to hit my last goal of the year, 10 # per year in the dead. Actually went 545 instead of the 540 so that’s 10.09# per year. Soory for all the ass shots. Just the way the gyms set up.
So, to sum up my year, gym lifts:
Bench: 375 paused
Squat: 455 x 2
Deadlift: 545
Clean: 335
Clean/Press: 295
Bunch of other stuff
Competitions
3 T&F Meets = 4 Gold, 3 silver , 2 bronze
3 Highland games = 4th, 2nd, 4th
Goals for 2010
Bed Shikira, oops, wrong forum.
Get stronger, throw farther, improve in the highland games, have fun, again.
Edit: Converted my phone format,.3g2 to Avi before uploading (freeware, oh yeah baby). No singing but you can hear the grunt.
Nice lifts. That 545 was fast! Bet you were good for 30 more.
Nice work. That did come up fast.
Damn Harry, you hammered the hell out of that one. Nice work. You had a great year!
Wow! Great stuff. Powerful lifting at every angle.
x2 on what Tony and Jack said. The 545# went up like a parcel you were about to toss in the back of the truck. No embellishment on that…it looked like you didn’t even have to try. The grunt sounded more like an inconvenience than a strain.
Great year! And if the training, games/meets, route, breakfasts, BBQs, reunions, construction and so on weren’t enough, you bitch slapped a Cottonmouth before dispatching it to the next world.
Bedding Shakira might be the only way to top it. My 1st thought was that you should hit the gym immediately after and see what numbers you put up with all that adrenaline. Having seen her dance, though, I suspect you might end up crawling into the gym. Do let us know…
hey, if you want to see something funny, go to youtube and search on danzig and shakira. they did a duet video that is totally hilarious. for those of you who don’t know, glen danzig was the front man for The Misfits, seminal punk band, and now Danzig, cuz he didn’t want henry rollins to be the only punk front man to name his band after himself. good clean boyish fun, and shakira!

That was a formal grunt - just showing respect for a weight you know you’ll destroy.
Trust me stick, that cottonmouth got his licks in before departing. We throwers are proud to the point of being vain when it comes to our grunt/yell. We save the blood curdling ones for the big throw. Kinda like a kiai, focuses your chi and scares th shit out of your oppenent (or they collapse with laughter). We’ve been known to unleash “the grunt” in the can after a good mexican meal, too.
I thought about really training the dead and seeing how high I could get it, maybe even get a belt. Everytime I decide to concentrate on 1 lift all the throwing and prep interfer. C’est la vie.
Coolest Christmas present to date. Two really hot sisters on my route said they found this at a yard sale and got it for me. It’s an Avon After Shave bottle shaped like a mail truck. Clear blue glass forms the body and the cab is plastic. No date on it so I’m going to see if I can look it up. I’m still gonna play hard to get. They can’t have me that easy. The younger one, only 86, is lookin pretty spry though lately. Wife gets home soon and we’re off to a new steakhouse. Back to work and gym tomorrow.

try it here
edit: looked it up, circa 1977-1979
That 545 came up really fast hel, good work.
