Did the running and highland throwing at the college. Group of college younguns using the track came over to the throws area to ask about the highland stuff I was throwing. Told them about the games and how I was in the old farts division. One says, “all them other older guys built like you?” “naw, I’m usually one of the small ones”. “Damn, yawl usin some good geritol!” Quote of the day.
Sometimes college age kids have a really warped view of what is old.

Hit the river right after work today for a 45 minute swim. Water was cool but really felt good.
Might not get to the gym for the next couple of days. Once again I’ve been bestowed the honor of “logistics coordinator” for the Vets Home, Vets Day activities. (anyone else here the little brother?) This lofty title means I get to drive the bus, get all the mean old cusses from the Vets home to a resturant, to a parade, and back home again. In one piece. Alive. Can’t hog tie them, either. Big day planned for 11/11. Free breakfast for all the old gents at a local resturant. Parade, and big Bar-B-Que after. My oldest brother, who assigned duties once again this year, will be doin the cooking. Most the extended family will be involved. Good time for all.

Spent today with a bunch of heroes. All old men. Old men with no one but each other. Proud old men. That I was allowed to stand with such men humbles me. After the parade looked at all their pictures, again, and heard all their stories, again. Their friends died again taking the beaches, the same stupid officers made the same stupid mistakes, the same bars were revisited, the same fights fought and the same women got laid again. They hit on my wife, my nieces, sisters in laws, any women present, hell, even my Mom(she was 16 in occupied Germany. Old geezers are always tryin to remember their GI German phrases to use on her.) Snuck them some bourbon and stogies and pretented the nurses didn’t know about it. Brothers outdid themselves cooking again. I helped, (“put some more charcol on”). These guys will all be gone soon and the next generation will start to take their place.
Sorry, nothing here about lifting, no jokes or one liners.

First we went to a place called Assi Supermarket, then International Supermarket, then Lennox Square, JW. The first two places are hugh oriental stores with everything from virtually everywhere. Tank after tank of live fish and veggies you just can’t get most places. I kept trying to imagine the logistics of having all the different fresh items flown in and couldn’t. We took my cousin’s van and filled it. Three huge coolers we took we packed with a dozen types of fish, squid, eel, unknowns. Stopped at a little place I know outside of Rome, Ga and loaded up on some good Bar-B-Que an slaw they make just right. My big shopping for the day.

A certain well known comedian says he may run for pres in 2012. Un PC and undoable in most cases but entertaining none the less. Doing a cut and paste from a friends email so we’ll see how this comes out.
