Great lifting. I’m envious of your cleans. After watching a few videos I’ve realized I’m not explosive enough. Some of those guys completely jump off the floor with tremendous amounts of weight. I’m lucky if my heals come off the floor.
Ah yes,explosivess. I have the strength, I just can’t use it fast enough, as in force (f=ma). Not really sure how much it’s possible to get back but I’m starting to believe it doesn’t lie in the direction of just getting stronger. Going to have to bury the ego and start using lighter stuff a lot faster. Adding in runs and a lot more pylos. Been studying the Werner Gunter vids (thanks to Kevin). Some really good exercises on there I haven’t tried.
Last night went to the indoor pool and got some laps in. Big difference when there’s no current. Nice and easy alternating crawl/breast stroke for about 600 meters.

Finally caught up with your log… nice work big guy! I’m gonna incorporate some cleans with presses, power cleans, etc. into my training… just gotta figure out where would be the best for me while doing this 5/3/1 thingy.
Bunny, pretty sure the presses will help with the powerlifting but not sure how much the power cleans will help. Probably won’t hurt (famous last words, there).
Last night, faught off all the ghoals and ghosties. Actually, a group of us guys fired up a grill in front of my garage and sat there eating, bsing and drinking beer while the women handed out candy. To get candy from my wife you gots to work for it. Makes the kids turn around, show their costumes, accessories, whatever. She does give out big handfuls of candy though. I did manage to stash away some of the gummi candy for later.
Already got 2 T&F invites for next year. One is in June and the other in May. I’ll move into a different class, 55-59, so my goal is to throw farther than I ever did in the younger class.

Explosiveness. I’ve been dwelling a lot on this recently, especially as my cleans had become heavy reverse curls and my jerks were presses with a four inch lockout.
Today I decided I would return to the good old days of doing 40’s. I thought I would teach my son a lesson or two in explosive speed. We warmed up with a 3/8 mile jog, and then I was done because I was gasping for breath.

I am a HUGE fan of the standing Broad jump, the Max Strength program
had me doing them with deadlifts. I do them with squats too.
Mine showed some good improvement after only a few weeks.
