Question for anyone wants to answer; Do you feel a belt actually adds poundage to your squats and deadlifts or does it just allow you to lift what you’re already capable of without getting injured?

Tonight
bench
135,185wu
225x12
275x10
315x8x3

Incline bench
135,185wu
225x8
275x6
295x5,5,4,3

Seated db press
50,55,60,65x10

front delt raises
35x8x4

Rear delt raises
30x8x4
[/quote]

315x8 is just plain awesome, hel. Great work! Really strong…

As for the belt, it helps me. Of course, it may just be a confidence/stability effect. I am wary of aggravating my lower back, so I use it. That being said, I do feel much more stable, and hence confident, when squatting and deadlifting with it on. I even use it on my heavy bench, as it makes me feel more stable/tight on that as well. Am I physically able to do the same weight without it? Who knows. (I did do 320 on bench without it and a few weeks later hit 330 with it…could have been gained strength though) I definitely would not feel as “comfortable” without it though.

A belt helps with your sqauts more than with your deadlifts. It has to do with the abdominal pressure of putting all that weight on your back. If you push your abs against the belt your body now has a support system in front as as well as the pine/erectors in back. It also really helps you to stay tight.

Oh by the way : Some good benching there big guy.

sidenote alot of lifters have 2 different belts for their lifts. A 4 inch for Sqauts and a 2.5 inch for Deadlifts and benching.

As a rule of thumb for my clients any weight over their bodyweight gets a belt.

I hope this helps.

Bench is awesome. If I had your legs I could bench like that too. It’s fu#$%^&& genetics I guess. The best to ya.

I have to jump in on that bench hel. That is plain hard core strong! Good work.

Been very busy. Had a big meeting at the union hall the other night. Looks like 5 day mail delivery is coming. Postal management have their minds set and it’ll come. About 1000 post offices on the chopping block and you can say goodbye to about 35,000 jobs. Rest of the post office isn’t far behind.

Saturday, after work:
Sngl arm db swing raise to overhead (left arm not real coordinated)
45,50,55,60x8

cable lat raise
40,45,50x8

front delt raise,db
35,40,45x8

facepulls
100,110,120,130x10

Get home from gym. Wife says, quick, call Liz. (One of the many nieces) There are these places on the river you can reserve that have grills, tables, etc., all set up. My niece and a bunch from where she works reserved one. The places are free but you’re required to have lifegaurds and one of hers had just cancelled. I keep my lifegaurd waterfront, cpr,etc curent. So Uncle and Auntie head out to the party. Got to eat some good food, drink soda (I was working) and kick back at the riverbank. No one drowned so I guess I did a good job.

This morning

Gonna see how I feel walking tomorrow.

Good God Hel, 355 on SLDL’s? I had to read that three times before I was sure I had read it right. Freaking impressive.

Sorry about the job stress. My health care job may not be far behind the post office. Your workouts are looking great though. My hamstrings ache like hell after GMs on Saturday.

Joe, I’m either doing something right or real wrong. The only place I’m feeling any of my deads, sldls, and even the zercher GMs I just started doing is in my hamstrings and gluts. Keep waiting to feel at least a little DOMS in the lower back but nothing. Deads I can understand cause I always pull back with the legs first. I do remember from back in the day when after heavy deads I couldn’t stand up straight.
Eco, my job stress is for the other carriers. I already make a good military retirement and va payment. Because of points I get for my mil service I’d be one of the last to go.
I was interest to see your hamstrings are hurting after GMs. In light of what I said to Joe maybe I shouldn’t be feeling anything in my lower back.
So, what’s the picture all about? I’m walking out to the throwing area in my backyard today where I threw the:

56# for height x 10
28# for distance x 10
sheaf x 10
22# stone x 10

when I happen to look over at the tomato & watermelon patch. Being used as a tomato stake is one of my javelins. It might as well have been thrust through my heart. Confronting the perpetrator of the heinous act I was met with the wife logic,
“you don’t throw the spear thing anymore”,
“but I might”,
“the tomatos will be grown by then I’m sure”.

Ouch. Dont you hate when they use that logic stuff on you?

Ouch. That hurt. I just alerted my wife that i better not find any of my skiing equipment in the garden. Ever. Not that that will do any good.

I was gonna pout a little but she cooked this up for me on the grill tonight.

Funny how a nice slab of meat can make things better. Appeals to our primal side.

Great lifting hel…as always.

Three things to chat about
1-your sldl are strong as hel- get it a little humor!
2- I am stoked at your squat. It is getting real strong.
3- You deserve every penny of your military and va pay. I will never forget the orca story and I’m sure that is one of many!
How was that T-Bone brother? Have a great day.

NOTHING wrong with THAT logic!

Ate the whole thing plus all the sides. The wife does feed me well.
Thanks, Jimmy T. Make sure brother Barry behaves this weekend.
Well, last night was suppose to be chest/tri
Got through 135, 225 for warmup and added more when Kabaam, boom (not Batman) the thunderstorm arrived and the power departed. Gave it a few minutes, still no power, left the gym for home. No power there either. Lit candles, had a make shift dinner, and hit the bed.
Weather cleared up today so went for a good swim after work. Water was runnin a little fast after the rains so made for a fast outgoing swim and slow hard return. Gonna try to bench Fri so I’ll come up with something for tomorrow.

Training looking strong as usual hel, nice going big guy.

Always nice to catch up on your posts(& others)! See things are going your way, for the most part, hope the news about work isn’t stressing you out. Hope all is well with you & yours!

Everything’s going good QT and thanks for stopping by DZ. Update: Thursday was my day off and spent all of it working at getting an annual event called the Sheriff’s Rodeo set up and ready to go. The rodeo is on 2 nights with the first one, last night, being for kids with special needs. I’ve got 2 sister-in-laws who work with the kids so we all kinda of get drafted to help. Good cause, no complaints. Tonight is the regular rodeo to raise money for them. Did manage to get in some swimming and throwing late Thursday. Early yesterday before work finished my chest and tri workout from the other day. Probably nothing again today cause after work it’s straight to the rodeo. Probably have me following the bull’s with a shovel.

I was thinking you would be rasslin’ those bulls! Sounds like a fun cause.

Great time had by all at the rodeo last night. We set a new record for the amount made and it was for a good cause. I’m sure I set a PR for eating Bar-B-Q, slaw, tater salad, and drinking ice cold A&W Root Beer.
Sunday seems to be turning out to be my back/leg day. Just keeps working out that way
Today

Deadlift
135,225wu

140,190,240x10

Behind the back BB shrugs (smith machine)
315 x max 4

Squats
135wu
225x8
275x6

385x2

zercher squats
135wu
185x6
225x6
275x5
295x3

Tried using a belt today. Picked out one of the normal width, regular belt buckle ones. Really screwed up my deadlifting. Couldn’t get it comfortable. Took it off after the first few sets. Squats were a different story. Back in the day I’d wear a regular belt and turn it around backwards, buckle in the back. Oh yeah. Squats and zerchers felt great. Could of gone higher but a little voice said “you’ve got to walk your route tomorrow”. More experimenting to come.

Edit: Not to offend anyone but what happen to moving all the T questions to another section? The only 2 stickied subjects are about low T and I’m sure some people under 35 want this info. Can’t find your guys threads for all of them. Sorry.
