I am 192 pounds currently, my current goal weight would be 210 with a single digit body fat. Maybe 230 later on in life. But I have become interested in mixed martial arts. I currently do chad waterburys total body training, 3 days a week and then some HIIT on two off days. I am currently eating very clean and supplementing for extra calories. I do the HIIT to maintain low body fat, not necessarily to lower it, which would be difficult in a bulk.
Before I get off topic, I want to start throwing combat training into the mix but I do not want to stop bulking. What would be a good way of setting this up, I am thinking replace the cardio with the combat training?

I don’t see why it’d be impossible to just add in the MMA training on top of that schedule.
2 days of HIIT cardio a week is not THAT outrageous. Do your MMA stuff on one of your HIIT days and then (since you’re working out 5 days a week), add in a 6th day specifically for MMA training.
Just do it, then you’ll adjust and find what is best for you. I would personally cancel the HIIT days and get some “mma” training in there and then see if I can restart HIIT training or add more martial arts training if recovery allows.
PHGN,
I think I will adopt your ideas because I work out MWF and my training sessions would be on Tuesday and Thursdays my off days. For HIIT I would drink chocolate milk post, do you think this would still be okay as a recovery drink for martial arts training also? I plan on eating a large PWO meal also.
Also, is it a good idea to try this at the same time? Would it be better to hit my bodybuilding goals first and then when I am happy with the way I LOOK, head towards strength and martial arts while just eating to maintain my physique?
You need to decide if you want to be sore and subpar on the mat, and getting lit up in striking, or if you’d like to be in good shape to progress with your “combat” training.
I would bet that you’d either decrease the amount or intensity of your workouts, or quit training in combat sports. Simply combining grappling, striking, and general roadwork is tiring enough. Adding in strength work is a delicate balance between positive gain and total failure.
Everybody wants to better themselves in multiple fronts, but this is a situation where one should carefully choose what they most desire, and how a larger focus in that will impact other goals.
