Glucosamine?

For those of you who take Glucosamine? Do any of you get it at Walmart or Walgreens? What brand do you buy if you do and does it help?

As long as it contains what it says on the label, i don’t think that the brand really counts. i used glucosamine last year for about 8 months while following a bodybuilding-style routine. it worked for me, but it takes a month or two before you notice any difference - it’s efffect is very gradual, so many people don’t evern realize that their joints feel better than they did months before. try 1000mg glucosamine with 1000mg vitamin C and 1000mg MSM first thing in the morning and right before bed. you might also want to try type II hydrolyzed collagen, but some people have reported stomach upset from this supplement.

I started with the pricey stuff at GNC. When it ran out I remembered it while at a drugstore, I’ve tried a $10 bottle. Not being cheap, just didn’t want to go to the mall. A month later, my shoulders were getting bad again. I went back to the to the costly Glucosamine/Chondroitin mix.

I’m not going to say it was placebo effect because I didn’t think about the price, just the convenience of being in the store.

But try the cheaper stuff and see if it does the job.

Consumer reports did an article on Glucosamine/Chondrodin (spelling?) and recommended Sam’s or Costco. Not only cheaper, but contained accurate ingredients as stated on the bottles.

Most of the studies have been done on Glucosamine sulfate, not glucosamine hydrocloride. Make sure that the product has Glucosamine sulfate, not hydrocloride. Also, most studies have used either 1500 or 2000 mg/day. the price has been coming down. I carry a product by Designs for Health in my office, it comes in 1000mg capsules and 180 caps cost (retail) 25 dollars [That’s a 3 month supply to you and me Russ (ala Clark Griswold)].

Take care

Try Lindberg ArthRenew. It’s in powder instead of capsules so you just scoop it out and mix it with water.

Walmart’s Spring Valley brand works for me. And it is cheap.

i go to vetamerica.com and buy chondrogen eq which is a horse supplement containing glucosamine and chondroitin in mega doses along with some hyaluronic acid. 1 container is around $50 and will last around 200 days, i just mix a half serving into my protein drinks and it has worked well.

Glucosamine has worked for me! As others have stated, as long as it is a quality brand I don’t think it matters. It took about 60 days for it to actually work. Be patient and keep taking it, it’s worth it!

I do not take Chondroiton as I have read on two occasions that there is a link between this nutrient and prostate cancer. I am being cautious here.

If you are taking it for joint pain I’ve found I had better luck when I upped my essential fatty acids (fish oil and flax oil) than when I was taking Glucosamine. It helped with my knee and my dad’s old hip injury felt better as well. Just a thought.

I use Spring valley Glucosamine abd Chondroitin from Wal-mart. I love it. I’d call it a must have if you put up big numbers and/or if you use aas or ph.
