Speaking of silly animals (fear not, none on my shirts) my fucking Fight Monkey gloves are starting to show some wear, I just bought them the end of January. The right I throw upper cuts with has a tear I just noticed today in the inner lining. The foam padding is also a little deformed on the back of the hand. I will still use them into the ground, I am not in a position to buy a replacement.

That’s bullshit. I don’t care what you do to the gloves, they should be designed to take a licking. Although, Melvin Smiley using them as life-savers in his river is maybe out of warranty. Try contacting the retailer or manufacturer for a return or something if that’s an option. Also, tears in the glove and such could injure a sparring partners face. But leather really is the best option, or at the least very high quality synthetic.
But to those brosephs who spend more on their TapouT™ T’s than their boxing kit: That’s what you get.

That’s obscene dude. I would call the company and lodge a complaint. I don’t know how Fight Monkey (WTF?) is wit that, but Title is excellent - they just make you send a pic or whatever and they replace them for nothing.
Seriously, raise hell about it. You pay too much money to have them break down that fast. My Title Gels literally just started wearing out last summer, and I still have kept them limping for another few months.
That makes three-and-a-half YEARS I’ve had them.
On another note, I believe that I’m going to move away from the Gels this time in favor of these:

There are a lot of pros to the gels - namely, very thick and they have that gel shit in them that really helped out with the knuckle pain I was experiencing years ago when I first started. They also took forever - as previously state, three-and-a-half years, to wear out.
The cons - they’re heavy, much heavier than a typical 16 oz. glove. Also, they’re a bit big for me; my hand doesn’t sit all the way in, and I always kinda felt like my hand was “floating” in them so to speak. This is probably primarily because while my fist itself is thick, my fingers are short, and so I don’t “feel” that I’m filling the glove as I should (lotta jokes in there, c’mon, I’m lobbing softballs… )
That being said, I tried on my coach’s classics - the lace up kind, but still the classics - and they felt much lighter and much tighter. The padding is thick, and he said that they weathered the storm well for him.
I don’t have the money for expensive Reyes or Grants, as much as I’d love them, and Title treats me well and makes affordable, tough stuff. So I’m sticking with them.
I still haven’t got back to the store, although I did find the original sales receipt. I know it is the same store, but does anyone think I would do well with these:
If I can save $30 off of a regular price, and they last, I might go for them.
Bless me for I have sparred! Details in my journal over in over 35 lifter.

Below is what I copied from over there. I have to talk the gym managers to let bring my camcorder back in, I realize that one can only conjecture what it looked like from my words here.
We sparred. I admit I am about 205lbs and he calls himself 150lbs, but I did get clocked a few times. I seemed to advance on him a lot and almost always missed with my jab. when I tried to hook him he would ding me with his left and I felt sort of duh!, but any way I slightly got him with a few rights, but it was almost always me getting the worst of it. Still, I came out if it feeling like a new man. 2 minutes. I had trouble breathing through the mouthguard. Damn, I wish i could have made a video of it.

x2 for Title gear. I use the Title Pro gloves, and have always had title boots for the ring. I buy the top end of their range, but mainly because they last forever and are a great product for the price if you ‘amortise’ them over a few years. Still wearing the same shoes I got from them nearly 5 years ago now (although it’s time they were replaced!)

150lbs is a malnourished bloke in danger of dying suddenly at any time if he doesn’t get 4000 calories a day into him according to most sections of this forum. The reality is that a 150lb fighter is no joke, an is plenty big enough to do all kinds of damage.
Congratulations on getting into the ring. It’s great that you enjoyed it and had a positive experience with a guy knew how to handle a beginner, and who didn’t just flatten you every opportunity he got. Keep it up, you’ll be rewarded with great progress and a fighter’s self-esteem in no time!

Haha, I boxed at 147lbs at 6’1 for a while. I had to be sensible with my diet to stay there, and I definitely felt better at middleweight, but I didn’t feel light or weak compared to most of the people I came across in daily life.
Honestly I stopped reading the rest of this site a while back, partly because of the ridiculous claims surrounding weight, that I felt undermined the sense of many posts. I read all the time things like ‘what a 180lbs skinny untrained noob…’. I hover around 180lbs in fight condition, which as a point of reference makes me the same height and weight Dempsey was when he won the world heavy weight title. He may not have looked like a bodybuilder, but I doubt many people would describe Dempsey as skinny, or weak, even leaving aside his fistic achievements. At this weight, I feel like one of the big boys (as in I would happily mix it up with them), and I am treated as one by all the heavyweights. According to the logic of the other parts of this site, I could put on 15lbs, probably still have abs, and would only then be a ‘big guy’. It just doesn’t stack up very well to me.
Looking to get a new pair of gloves mainly for heavy bag work since my old bag gloves (which were light as fuck and didn’t really offer much protection anyways) are pretty much falling appart. I have pair of Top King’s 16oz gloves that I use for sparring and training, but I don’t feel like punching the fuck out of those on heavy bag since I’ll be using them to hit training partners in the face and it sucks to get hit in a face by a worn out glove with no padding left.
I have read mixed opinions on what size you should wear for heavy bag work, some suggesting going as heavy as possible for maximum protection and others saying using smaller gloves for bag work will help your technique and speed more. I weight about 185lbs, so I’ve been thinking of going for 12 or 14oz training gloves.
I’ve been considering getting either Fairtex, Twins or Title Platinum Paramount gloves. I could get my hands on Fairtex and Twins to try them out, but I’d have to order the Title gloves from online store without trying them on. From what I’ve heard the Title gloves have a very big hand compartment though, so I guess I could go all the way down to 12oz and still fit my wrapped hands in them?
If anyone has any opinions regarding these gloves for bag work I’d love to hear 'em. Thanks!
I would not go below 16 ounces. I really don’t trust anyone who tells me to do all my work with 12 ounce gloves - if you hit like a bitch, then maybe you can deal with it, but I’m 180 lbs. and I know how to punch. I need every ounce of that 16.
If you can get away with smaller ones, go for it, but a good pair of 16’s - and I just got the Title Platinum Paramounts and I love them - will do you good.
For heavy bag or full contact sparring I’d go 16’s. Light contact I’ll even use my 4 oz, but only with people I know and trust. Fairtex gear has a pretty good rep, never used them myself but they are fairly common and I hear no complaints.
Title platinum paramounts are excellent gloves, as Irish said. Haven’t heard anything about the Twins, plus or minus.
Thanks for the opinions, I think I’m going to go ahead and try out the Title gloves if I got the time tomorrow, store that sells them only has 12 and 14oz though so guess I’ll be going with 14oz if I think they fit me well.
