Alright, so recently I took my best stab at the Darkhorse program from Brian, and pretty concisely got my ass handed to me. Dont get me wrong, it was incredibly fun! I learned a lot from those 8ish weeks of hell, and understand my body quite a bit more. I fell off due to having to put some life priorities first. I’ve still been lifting, but just for fun. Now it’s time to get back on a schedule and get organized. I’ll post some details, goals, pros, cons, and current equipment, to find an ideal program.
Current body details:
26 y/o
6’3"
225lbs
Deadlift 5RM - 375 (beltless, and I didn’t have more weight)
Bench 1RM - 350
Squat 1RM - 350 (assumed, based off working weight, not confirmed)
OHP 1RM - 200
Garage gym, current equipment:
Full rack (with pullup attachment, and safety bars), 2 barbells, 500lbs worth of plates (I’ll specify if necessary), dumbbells from 5 to 35lbs, EZ curl bar, 20+ foam pads, chain for weighted pullups, fat grips, and maybe a few other misc. Items.
As for goals… size and strength, with emphasis on the strength. I’ll never complain about getting bigger, but I generally enjoy lower rep ranges, as well as… well… big weight honestly.
Hard numbers I’m working towards:
Deadlift: 450
Bench: I’m okay with 350, so… 375? Some improvement.
Squat: 400 as a very soft cap
OHP: I dont know. I hate shoulders. But it needs to be better. I’d like 200x3 as a start.
I currently seem to be coming out of an injury in my shoulder finally, after a comically large increase in my pulling movements. Also used to have a bad lower back injury, but that hasn’t bothered me in quite some time, still worth noting.
So through everyone’s trials and tribulations, I want something that I can hit 4 - 5 days a week, roughly an hour long, and get some solid progression. What has everyone enjoyed the most, and seen the most quality progress in?
Thanks for everyone who made it to the end, and replies!
