Even Tate uses the wimpy medicine balls…the big wuss.

Ooooo…I’m gonna tell…

That Dave Tate has good form. If i got a dollar for ever person I saw at the gym hyper-extending on the back raise I’d be a freaking gagillionaire!

I’m definitely not calling Dave Tate a wuss! nuh-uh.

So, I’m not much of a cook but I saw this idea in a magazine and just tried it with delicious results. If you are a greek yogurt fan, but want clean eating ideas for it, try this:

1 nonfat greek yogurt
1/4 cup canned pumpkin
a bunch of cinnamon (I used fancy Vietnamese cinnamon from Penzey’s Spices – google them if you dare)

It was honestly delicious as a late PM snack. Lots of protein, good nutrition, no sugar but still tasty.

Im a hyper lover…love that move.

I tried doin em all tough like with the barbell, but it’s uncomfy and I can’t get complete range of motion.

Kimba, yes!! …you can even add oat or wheat bran and have a nice tasty breakfast!!

note: do hypers with medecin ball next time

Kimba - that recipe sounds very delish! speaking of recipes, I got one for some homemade jerky from a friend that I will try this week.

Kimba, nice squats! Glad you got yourself unstuck!

Anything with pumpkin is delicious.
Anything with pumpkin and cinnamon is like pie.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, I’m a fan of the name too. Apparently I didn’t make it up, but everyone on PW can just pretend haha

  1. I LOVE greek yogurt
  2. I LOVE pumpkin
  3. I LOVELOVE cinnamon

you’re my new hero!!

I’ll ask around EFS on sat and see whether behind the head is really harder.

it was explained to me via physics and loading that behind the head is sposed to be more difficult. oh well. long as youre doin em i guess.

Ms. Kimba, Lots of activity going on here. I need to go back to page 39 to comment on your squat video–Your back looks awesome in that video!

Betty, I also thought it was difficult to get full range of motion with the barbell.

N., at least the medicine ball won’t leave marks.

Greeney, I’m sure glad I got unstuck too. It was pretty darn funny though.

Nikki and Plucky, as pumpkin fans you guys should be so happy this time of year. Pumpkin for all!

CBear, yes please do that. I’d love to hear what you find out.

Nadia, thanks for the kind words. I’ve resolved to wear those tank tops into the winter, for vanity reasons.

Off to ART and then another day of frantic work. The piper is being paid for all the vacation and elder care of the past month.

We have a Penzy’s here and they have the best peppercorns ever but cinnamon isn’t cinnamon unless its from Ceylon. I had an entire can of pumpkin last night with buttuer and cinnamon and it was quite tasty.

Thought I should mention that I found pumpkin flavored cream cheese today…It doesn’t go well with the pumpkin AT ALL!

ya, the barbell on the back was cool and all, but not to sound wussy, I found it hard to keep the bar just so, and not roll on the top of my spinal cord

Behind the head is harder because it’s farther from the fulcrum. If you hold the weight out above your head it would be even worse - but it’d look pretty goofy. Best plan to track progress is to pick a style and stick with it, adding resistance over time.

Or mix it up and try different ways to load it (db on chest, plate on chest, plate behind head, barbell on back, band behind neck, chains behind neck). It’s just an assistance exercise. As long as it’s doing its job (assisting) it doesn’t really matter. It’s good to have some fun

How about in a pumpkin cheesecake?

Yeah, IMO it would make sense that the weight behind the head is harder.

And I like what Bobbi is saying re: mixing up the assistance work - for me, that is really where i have the most fun (I could probably rattle off 20 different pushup variations lol!). I think next time I do back ext I’ll try with the bands…

Its always informative in here  Thanks!

Joe, it is not shocking to me that you have discerning cinnamon preferences. I flavor up my oatmeal with cinnamon every AM (to cancel out the slightly off taste of the sucralose in the Grow! Whey powder) and stronger, bitier cinnamon like the Vietnamese is my choice about half the time. Ceylon is my choice the other half.

Since I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner (my sister is flying in to help, thank god – I hate cooking) I’ve given the subject of pie some thought. I am debating making this easy, traditional pumpkin pie recipe instead of a pumpkin cheesecake sort of thing:

Bobbi, what you write (as always) makes great sense. I want some chains! That would turn some heads in my wussy weight room.

Maschy, go ahead and inspire me to train pushups more. I tend to shove those onto the back burner although I don’t hate me or anything.

Today’s training was lots of squat volume and not much less to speak of:

5/3/1 “Off the Reservation” Day

Squats
65# 1 x 10
75# 1 x 10
85# 1 x 10
90# 1 x 10
85# 1 x 10
75# 1 x 10

high volume, low weights, sitting back, no knee cave, only hit the rails once (that is too low) and I’m hoping the rest of the squats were legal depth.

Bench Press
Bar 1 x 5
65# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 2 <–failed on 3
65# 1 x 12

ho hum.

Independent Handle HS Pulldowns
37.5# 1 x 20 alternating, each side

Dips
BW 1 x 20 <–weak effort today

Lots of ab work, which I hate.

I tried on a pair of Nike Frees today. Alas, Nike shoes just don’t fit my wide forefoot. I’m considering running some sprints on days when its too cold to ride but before there is any snow to XC ski on. I’d like decent shoes in which to do so, so I was bummed at the lack of good fit.

Really? My forefoot is wide (coupled with a very narrow heel - duck feet, as I like to call 'em) and Frees are fine on me. Then again I’m a US 10 in Nikes so they may be a bit wider than the smaller sizes.

Nikes no matter how much I want them to just don’t fit my feet either. I use & love the 5 fingers though. They are my running shoe, when I run.

Wow, nice dips! I don’t know if I can even do 20.

I hate ab work too sticks out tongue

Great work today, those squat numbers are awesome

Hey Kimba: If you decide to sprint (and you should!) you may want to hit a running speciality shoe store for your first pair. I’ve had good luck at those kind of places…
