Joe, I have ridden long distances for a long, long time. I guess I’ve gotten used to it. It does probably affect my squat/deadlift strength, though.

Training in an hour before the gym closes! I’m about ready to bust from sitting on my aforementioned ass all day. Its only deadlift deload, but I’ll take it.

5/3/1 - Wave 11, Week 4, Deadlift and Military Press Deload

Sumo Deadlift
from floor:
85# 1 x 5 <–lots of deficit with 10 lb. plates but looked good
95# 1 x 5 <–some deficit with 25 lb. plates, all good
115# 1 x 5 <–a little deficit with 35 lb. plates, all good

I’m happy that I am pulling much better from a deficit than I did at the beginning of this year. No risers needed anymore for the small plates.

Barbell Hip Thrusts with Shoulders on Bench
135# 1 x 10
155# 1 x 10
175# 1 x 10 <–the last 2 reps were hard

supersetted with

Nikki’s Smith Machine Glute Buster
Bar 1 x 10
20# 1 x 3 R, 1 x 2 L <–wow, that was hard. Too much weight
Bar 1 x 10

The combination of these two exercises hit my glutes pretty hard. I’m doing this again.

Military Press
Bar 1 x 5

Kroc Rows
45# 1 x 9, 1 x 8 <–last 2 reps were cheated

Back Raises
45# bar on back 1 x 10 <–PR +15 lbs.

So, I had the bright idea to put an oly bar on my back and sidle over to the back raise bench. I managed to get there without putting a hole in the wall or banging other equipment. However, after finishing 10 reps, which was really all I could manage, I was STUCK. And all alone in the weight room. I could not figure out how to get myself down. I ended up rolling the bar up my neck, over my head and onto the floor whilst in the “down” position. Leaving an angry red mark on the back of my neck.

Maybe that wasn’t the best idea that I ever had, but it would have made a great video. I can’t squeeze my head in dumbbells heavier than 30 lbs. and the 35 & 45 lb. plates are too unwieldy for me to manage. Perhaps I just need a spotter to get me in and out of the bar, and then I can load it with weight!

Just catching up here. Your training looks awesome. Loved the squat video and almost felt bad that, while watching the squat form, I was really more interested in what a great body you have. Fantastic butt there missy! Sorry to hear you were stuck but glad you figured out how to get out of it!

staying stuck is me speciality since I am just now beginning to find the balls to ask for spots.
Nice PR, in my book it would be worth the angry red mark.

Just hold the DBs or plate to your chest (or chin). Much easier to regulate the weight and to set up the exercise and less potential strain on the neck. There is no functional advantage to having the weight on your back.

CBear, I am SO happy about the deficit deads getting better. I think its just better technique, but some strength gains too. Pussy weights are surprisingly hard from a deficit.

The effort required is impacted by weight and distance from the hips. You can do them with chains or bands around your neck, a bar or weight on your back (pain in the ass) or holding a plate or DB at your chest, chin, forehead etc.

giterdone, those bands in the video look painful but in an interesting way. If Bret does back raises with the weight in front, I’m willing to try it. I’m a fan of the glute guy (shocking? not).
