Just thought that I would say hi to everyone and introduce myself. My name is Matt and I am trying to get back into the swing of things in the gym. Being a former college football player I have a pretty good idea of what I have to do to get things going. I am tipping the scales at 295 to 300lbs. Some people have said I don't look that heavy but I am. I am 6'5'' tall so I do spread it out. I would love to get back to 250 or 260. I there is anyone who has advice or even encouragment it is all welcome. I will try to post some pics and keep up with updates. Glad to be here. Thanks Matt
Well, as far as training you likely have a good idea of what needs to happen. It’s the diet that needs control. Toss out junk food, soda, pizza, ice cream, etc. Don’t worry about carbs, just eat your basic good foods (steak, veggies, fruits, etc). Chances are you’ll start losing fat just based on normal training and cutting out the crap foods you needed to maintain such a high weight for lineman duties. After fat loss slows you can start dropping calories or carbs.
Start a food journal. You need to know precisely how many calories you’re getting in every day so you know where to go when fat loss slows. Tighten up your food choices, eat 6 times a day, you should be able to do this.
thanks, the one thing I think I need to lay off is the beer. when i was training hard a little while back i never really drank much at all. I knew that it would hurt my gains. I try not to eat much junk food and drink water through out the day. I was about 280 and looked decent when in playing form. I just think 260 would look a lot better on me. The bad part about me is I love power lifts and I tend to put more weight on than loose.

Nothing wrong with power lifts most people would do better to incorporate them when starting out, though that probably doesn’t apply to you so much. But it looks like you know what you need to do to get the job done, good luck.
