Hey, I'm just sort of curious why my pecks don't come together. I dip 220 pounds, bench 185 wideish grip at 157(need to lose 4 pounds to make weight for plifting) And they don't come together at all. They don't quite look like moobs, but not really a good chest either.
Is it because of my 15% bodyfat, or am I missing out on a lift that will bring them together. I know I’m supposed to be thinking of overall strength, but this has been buggin g me for quite some time.
First thing is first, you simply aren’t going to have as full of a chest as you’d like with 157 lbs and moderate levels of bodyfat. After that, people’s genetic muscle attachments are unique to themselves and if you weren’t born with the blueprint to be able to have a large “middle” chest then you just won’t do it. Worry about that genetic portion when you put 50+ lbs of muscle on first though.
Even though you might think that your numbers suffice for your aesthetic goals you are probably still just small. You haven’t given us your hight and bodyweight, so no one can make judgments as to weather you are just undeveloped or not. Probably the case.
When I started out my chest made this shape
_/_ and it only joined at the top. Now as it is filling out it is joined at the middle. If you look at an ectomorphic adolescent you will find that they don’t even have perceivable pectorals (which was my case, didn’t even reach my nipples!), and with age they will form pectorals that spread down to cover their chest.
Bf% shouldn’t have anything to do with it, other than accentuating your shape - you may find later on down the track that you still have this problem and then you can account it to being the shape of your muscle, in which case you just have to live with it. But until you are around 180lb Lean Body Mass I wouldn’t make judgment on myself lest crush self esteem. Remember, hard work - always keep pushing heavier weights than before, and EAT EAT EAT. Keep up the good work and maybe update us in a year, and tell us a story of your development as inspiration for other readers :D.
I heard a tale once of a lift that would bring together a man’s chest…
It basically was cable cross-overs. Grab a cable from each side of … whatever the cable machine is called, shudder because you’re using a machine, and then pull/push the weight to the other side of your body. Your arms will cross in front of you.
I’ve never actually seen it work. Just some food for thought. Although truthfully, you probably just need to get bigger.
I was just curious, because even though I’m small, my chest is pretty prominant on my body. And the fact there is a gap between them makes them almost look like tits, and it bugs me alot.
I have that same problem. When I started working out I had no pecs whatsoever. lol
Im asian, 21 yr old, 5’-6" and 160lb. 12-14% BF
Almost a year later, it’s looking pretty filled in, but it bugs me too when I see guys who don’t even work out have better chests than I do. Genetics is a bitch.

My qualm isn’t about the size, it’s about the not coming together. For whatever odd reason I have a large chest on a small body, with small numbers.

Except get bigger. It’s true you can’t shape muscle bellies or change their length but you can defiantly close the gap between your pecs by making them bigger and you can, dare I say it, make your bicep peak IF you get your bicep to be big enough.
Muscle shape is linear. You can shape them to be big or small. That’s ALL YOU CAN DO!
