Getting Into Powerlifting?

Hey,
I’ve been going to the gym for somewhat over 1 year now training a normal bodybuilding split in which I trained every muscle group 1.5 times a week (2 units, 3 times training a week). I’ve already got a addicted to increasing my weights but lately I’m not making any progress. so I thought about switching to a powerlifting plan (also since my max is more important to me than looks)

I am 19 years old, 6,0 ft tall and actually at about 184 lbs. My current maximum weights (although I’m not testing very often) are 245 at the benchpress, 310 at the squat, and 345 deadlift.

I’ve just looked at the 5-3-1 plan and liked it very much, but I’m wondering if I’m ready for it?! Since I’ve been stagnating the last few weeks i thought it could be a good idea to only train every mucle group once a week, but as you may have noticed I’m still kinda newbie. What do you think about it?

and excuse my bad english

  1. Your english is perfectly fine.

  2. 5/3/1 is a great program, and you might be able to get something out of it. It’s a great program and written by a guy who really knows strength. My personal favorite is a straight up Westside Barbell split, only focusing on 5 and 3 rep maxes instead of heavy singles. I used that when I was about at your poundages. Mostly I like it because of sentimental reasons, but it does work really well too.

  3. There are other factors to consider in stalling out on your poundages too, namely program design, volume, and exercise selection. Also food intake. More info may help.

this would be a good bridge to the 531 and add some mass, which you definitely need
