Getting Drunk w/ Least Damage to Progress

Then what do you mix with your scotch?

I agree that black label is good enough to drink on the rocks. But I cant see
myself sitting at the pub with the mates sipping my scotch as they are downing
their pints.

What is the etiquette for drinking scotch on th rocks?

The point we are trying to make is that you are wasting money and quality booze.
Mixed drinks should be made with cheaper booze.
Not necessarily garbage liquor, but any common whiskey would be fine.
Jack Daniel’s, Jim Beam, etc…

As for the guy mixing Don Julio with juice.
Same story.
Why not just use Hornitos or some other brand that is cheaper and not Jose Cuervo?
Once it’s in a mixed drink you pretty much destroy any possibility of discerning the quality of the liquor.

Acting the part of a connoisseur and mixing quality sipping booze with shitty soda is a bad look.

Then again, waste your money if you want.
Fuck do I care?

People make a big deal about eating something like a small pizza or any “munchie” foods after a night of drinking, but getting something in your stomach will help in the morning.

Nights when I get hammered and never eat anything and pass out, I usually suffer the next day. Whereas if I’m boozing but get a chance to make/order some food or have my usual Casein/Milk/PB/Flax pre-bed shake I feel decent at worst the next morning. Could be just me but it seems like getting something substantial digesting helps kickstart a recovery day and I can sometimes get a productive session in the next evening.

Load up on Vitamin B before drinking and if possible before passing out. It’s depleted from processing all of the alcohol you drank. Basically, if I decide to drink, these would be the optimal guidelines:

 1. If looking to minimize fat gain - only eat lean protein/veggies leading up to the night (possibly one starch meal before to prepare your stomach for drinking)
 2. choose a clear, concentrated alcohol source. especially if your goal is to minimize calories (aswell as hangover)
 3. load up on Vit. B as stated above
 4. leave a few gatorade type drinks near by where ever you decide to pass out.
 5. ZMA, multi, vit. B alongside the gatorade.
 6. drink plenty of water in between/ after drinks.
 7. Train in the evening on hangover day.

There’s good reason people make a big deal about it… it’s been well-articulated elsewhere. There’s often a difference between what’s healthy, and what feels good.

I read a lot of different blogs, and on one of them they mentioned this website…

the best drinks for their alcohol %

Allow the college kid to help out on this one. Maybe some of this has been said before, but i read the first 15 or so posts before I weighed in. I come from a school of hard drinkers, and I’m a rugby player, fraternity brother, so I know how to celebrate. On the other hand of the spectrum, I am TIPS trained and also asked to help educate incoming freshman about proper alcohol consumption. That being said, you can manipulate the same information for your own goals if you’re smart about it. I’m a FFB, so I consider all of these things when partying.

Go low on your calories earlier in the day, the reality is whatever you drink you are adding excess calories.
Eat something before hand, not right before but a few hours that way you have something in your stomach, but at the same time it wont stop you from getting drunk.
Drink hard liquor first. Mixing hard liquor with diet sodas and carbonated beverages make the alcohol get absorbed faster.
Work out later in the day if you can, a faster metabolism makes it hit your blood faster, which gets you drunk faster, so you won’t need as much booze to get you there.
Stop drinking about 30-60 min before you’re going to leave or to bed or something, because any booze you consume at that point is basically just going to affect your BAC while you’re sleeping.
Pre-prepare yourself a protein shake with minimal carbs, and drink it before you go to bed. When you have alcohol in your system, your body cares 0% about burning fat, and all it thinks about is ridding the poison from the body. The protein shake will kick in the second the booze is gone.

AVOID THE DRUNK MUNCHIES. Thats the biggest one. Nothing like adding 1000 cals from bad fats and processed carbs in addition to the 1000 your going to consume from the booze. I can watch people eat pizza all the time and resist and eat my grilled chicken, but when I’m drunk, sometimes I can’t pass on pizza, and apparently I like putting ranch dressing on it. Who knew that was any good?

Have a good time. You know that drinking is a treat, and treat it as such. If you just do it smartly, you can get bombed, not totally kill your progress, and protein and water before bed will minimize the hangover the next day, so you can get to work. Sauna helps clear the booze out too.

What a waste of perfectly good scotch.
First thing I thought too. That’s criminal.

Stop being a pussy.

Drink whiskey, and drink it straight.

Pick up a chick, and screw away the calories you just consumed.

Have her make you bacon and eggs in the morning.

Stop being a pussy and then train harder later on.

Drinking upside down! Why didn’t I think of that?!?!?!

Because it’s fucking stupid…that’s why.
Ha very true but so was a lot of what I did back then, all fun though

T-Nation is making people have paralysis by analysis even while drinking, OH FUCK!

but wait will drinking two beers instead of one diminish my testerones levels??? gee i should have taken that vodka tablets in order to boost my GF-1

I find that taking liver protectants before, during and at cessation helps me not feel like crap the next day. Also I normally just stick to vodka on the rocks to avoid the extra calories of various other drinks.

I’m just gonna throw this out there. Ethanol, the chemical that gets you drunk is a depressant which will slow your metabolism. So the mention of caffeine by That_Was_LIGHT is spot on. Being a big drinker myself, and having experience mixing drinks you can make a lot of “healthy” drinks with vodka. Like mixing vodka with Rockstar Lemonade, 1 can has 20 cals 2 carbs, and enough caffeine to boost your metabolism to counteract the booze, and get you drunk a little quicker. It’s also fantastic Or a personal favorite of mine, (woman love it) 1 part Berry Acai vodka, 3 parts sprite zero, and 2 parts sugar free red bull. I call it black death but it tastes like a grape jolly rancher, and is good for you as far as drinks go. My point is depending on your tastes, drinking responsibly can be low calorie and doesn’t have to taste like shit. As for all the powerade zero/g2 comments all very true. But one better is mix a quarter of a bottle of pedialyte with as much cold water as you can drink before bed (I shoot for about 32oz). You replace your vitamins and minerals you’ve lost, and it hydrates you while you sleep. Mix that with a couple Ibuprophen (as long as you aren’t taken seriously liver toxic supplements) and it’s a blood thinner that will aid in sleep and recovery. You’ll get more O2, and H20 to your vital organs i.e. your brain. You’ll counteract your hangover, and be less sore from your days workout. That’s what I’ve found works best for me.

Like a lot of people have said the point of drinking is to have fun, stressing out about it will only make your night worse. Just suck it up in the morning work out like you should, and DO hit the sauna. It’s great for flushing your toxins, and loosening up after you hit the weights.

Also, Guiness is delicious, and to quote Ben Franklin “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy”. Never forget that fact.

Memorial day is 2 days away. I WILL have some Guiness Extra Stout. It is FULL of antioxidants, has plenty of alcohol, and filling. If you drink 3 of these, you will be full, pretty drunk and will not have enough room in your stomach for a bunch of french fries. Eat your burger or steak and sweet potato with it and feel like you are in the presence of God!
Mix gatorade/water 50/50 before bed and swig it down, when you wake up to pee(hopefully you do), take 400mg ibuprofen, more water and sleep in. You will most likely feel like training 100 percent next day.
Oh, eggs and bacon for breakfast!!!

Tequila, club soda, and a lime wedge.

Simple, healthy, and easy on the body.

That’s all I need when I do drink (which is almost never).

bloody mary the morning after:

vodka - hair of the dog
tomato juice- nice vitamin c hit, antioxidants and the like (repair some of the damage)
tobasco hot sauce - nothing like a bit of a kick to sort you out (plus if it’s hot enough you’ll jack up your BMR slightly)

Bacon. Always with bacon.

if that doesn’t work, add a spoonful of cement, and harden up.

srs?

I’ve had fantastic workouts the day after drinking lots of red wine.
Resveratrol?
Placebo?
Not getting drunk as fast as from vodka?
Don’t know, don’t care. Wouldn’t recommend it for someone on a diet though, for obvious reasons.
