I need some help with my sit ups. I am pretty good at all the other PT events, but I need to do more sit ups in order to get a higher score. what are some things that have helped the board members(specifically Military) improve their sit up numbers.
Which branch are you? There are different standards of sit-ups. It’s real easy to cheat the technique with the Air Force standards, but with Army, your best bet is to do more sit-ups.
Ummm, this method I’m going to tell you has been kept secret for decades, its origins are unknown, but some say it was created by Russians, or maybe the Chineese…
When I was at a military academy, we would help with testing to get into BUDS. Google or ask someone to show you the SEAL standard situp…that increased my normal sit up a lot more b/c of the difficult of the SEAL situp
Don’t know any quick fixes, but if you have a few weeks:
Do 100 situps Mon-Wed-Fri, in one workout. You can do them as max sets, or do pyramids, ladders, whatever. Just get 100 in the one workout, trying to keep the rest periods as short as possible. Add 100 every week after that. You could try Pavel’s Grease the Groove as well, but I haven’t used that system, so can’t voice an opinion.
Are you just trying to score better on the PFT, or are you screening for something?

I am trying to do both. Short term get better a better score on my PT test, and long term get a passing score on the PAST. So over the next 4-5 years I am trying to build up to 150 push ups 100+ sit ups and 25 pull ups and Run sub 10 min 1.5 mile and pass the swim test…
Thanks for the help
If you are trying for PJ, have you checked out specialtactics.com? They have some excellent indoc/PAST specific workouts, I actually used Bull’s ‘The Workout’ to get ready for SWCC, and saw great progress. It incorporates lifting, running, rucking, swimming, and calisthenics into one program which is pretty well thought out, IMO.

PT sucks balls.
when I was a 145lber at basic training i could get a 300 without any extra training. I figured, I conquered that hill, lets try something else. So I decide to start pursuing real strength, get into powerlifting, find my absolute passion.
And now I take a PT and my run takes 21 goddam minutes, 8 minutes slower than i was a year and a half ago.
So now I gotta start running again, fuck, I go running on wednesday, day after my ME squat day, and by friday, DE squat day, I couldn’t finish. My DE felt like ME.
Why does the army PT have to give the advantage to the skinny and weak?
PT ruins lives.
