This is what happens when you fly with BCAAs:
TSA guy: Are them gettin’ big powders? Why you want to get big?
Me: Why not?
TSA: Them are gettin’ big powders ain’t they?
Me: Yep.
They felt the need to hassle me and open my luggage at both airports I went through this weekend. Morons.[/quote]
You know, I have flown 20+ times with multiple gallon-size ziplock bags full of varying powders, both in carry-on and checked baggage, and I have never once gotten stopped for them. It’s a little disconcerting, to be honest.
Sort of makes me wonder why I don’t take up drug-trafficking as a side-job.
For a different take on this the new IED of choice among terrorists is made with TANG, hydrogen peroxide and a disposable camera. Not saying this guy wasn’t an ass, but the fact of their checking powders and stuff may not always be as stupid as it seems.

When I got pulled over for having a marker light out I was surprised the cop didn’t ask me about the zip lock sitting in the passenger seat beside me full of Surge. Would have been kind of fun to see his reaction.

Next time it happens, take some of the powder from the bag and sprinkle it all over your face and shirt. A la Bronson Pinchot in “True Romance”.
This is a subject that’s been on my mind lately, as I have to fly this coming weekend and I’m currently on a supplement regime that includes a whole lot of powders and pills. Traveling with pills is no problem, but powders . . . ?
Anyone got any good suggestions for how to pack them? And would you suggest putting them in your checked baggage or carrying them on?

See my above post.
I’ve carried them both in checked and carry-on, sometimes in Ziplocs, rarely in tubs, and have never once gotten stopped for them. I wouldn’t worry about it. They’re only concerned with liquids these days.

I don’t have a huge problem with them checking. I don’t even have a problem with them asking what the powders are. But don’t give me a critique of the contents of my luggage. Your job does not include giving a commentary on the legal contents of my suitcase.

Oh, I agree completely. I don’t care what they think of my personal belongings. I’m just making the point that powders of all things may actually draw some legitimate attention these days. Kinda off topic I guess.
To the OP: I would be very careful answering those kinds of questions, btw. If TSA were to ask me if my baggies contained “Gettin’ Big Powders,” I would ask for clarification of what they meant by “Gettin’ Big Powders.” Because you might be thinking protein, BCAAs, etc… but he might be thinking steroids or god knows what else.

That’s a good point. Who knows what’s goin on, or not, in the mind of somebody who says “gettin big powders”.

I hear Mentos and Diet Coke is the new thing.
In all seriousness, this Tang, H2O2 and cam scam is from 2006. That was the story that pushed a ban on liquids. The details of the investigation just came out this year though, which could explain why you’re confused about the novelty of this setup. I don’t buy the premise that you could build anything that could do serious damage to a regular aircraft with those things. And even if I did, how hard is it to get hydrogen peroxide in bottles of lens solutions. Not once has anyone checked to see if it was soap, piss or nitroglycerin.
Remember, cutters were behind 9/11.
I, for one, refuse to be terrorized by hair bleach and soft drinks. But feel free to buy all the hype. In fact, better stay home just to be safe. A “terrorist” might be busy with his lighter and butane can while you do your shopping.
