@BrickHead never said he discouraged women from being CEOs or earning a lot though
I think you are trying to project something, not a single student cares about. I did not know my school directors at all. I am quite sure most people do not ever meet them in school. Nor they have paid attention that a male is the director, while females are the teachers, thus males are leading. This is extremely over blown lmao. I am not buying into this projection, I am sorry.
I did not say the female intelligence is lower. I said according to me female intelligence in relationships is over rated.
You guys should stop projecting ridiculous stuff and put things on people’s mouths. I have seen most progressives do it when arguing. I like progressivism and the general idea of it. You need to progress and not stagnate. While conservative people like me should be able to balance and call on bullshit, so progress is made smartly.
I stated it without much thought. I didn’t have to say it, nor am I pro-or anti-covid vaccine. I got it for employment, and that’s it.
re-read through my reply. I poised the question as if I were carlbm and preemptively answered with Brickheads response, which was “I wouldn’t discourage it”.
I gotta go to bed… Need to get up in six hours ![]()
Of possible interest. Recent gender-related news I’ve come across.
So… Most American men? That fits the narrative of social degradation.
Can’t say I’ve seen the same correlation here. If anything those involved in the trades tend to be MORE involved with hard partying and promiscuity.
I’ve come to the revelation my generation profoundly lacks emotional intellect. Be it due to a lack of perceived belonging, poor parenting, lack of community, isolation, social media breeding narcissism… Who knows
I happen to think if we can re integrate many within a dynamic that teaches the individual/(s) to have empathy, put themselves in another parties shoes before acting on impulse, think about prioritising intermediate to long term outcomes over immediate gain; perhaps we would mitigate many negative aspects within our society
People wouldn’t be so quick to cheat, lie and manipulate. Perhaps I’m wrong…
I wouldn’t discourage men or women from going to college. The future is looking increasingly career orientated, there’s no way around that.
I might have misunderstood this paragraph especially the first line, you are saying it’s over rated for you in your relationships. I see now you only like talking at a deeper level with people with male genitals. My mistake.
Head teachers are quite visible in our children’s schools so that is different around the world. And social modelling is real, we all learn from it. Whether we notice or care. I’m not saying it’s the cause of all learning.
There is an issue in the UK that many young men who haven’t got a father figure may only get a role model at school at the age of 13 as most primary school teachers are women. The question then is who do they model their behaviour from. It’s an area of work I used to be in.
Tbh I’m not even sure if I’m progressive here, I know you’d be seen as right of conservative in this country. Just from your comments.
This man’s article was featured on reddits r/notheonion. Granted Reddit heavily leans towards the woke spectrum of left wing, filled to the brim with entitled kids who think they know everything because they’ve listened to a podcast or two.
With this being said, I’ll admit that I know very little about life as I’m only twenty years old. I do happen to believe I know more than most 20y/olds as a byproduct of my upbringing, having to frequently be my own advocate and/or fend for myself when moving from location to location; but perhaps that’s just arrogance on my part and I’m merely in line with the others.
In the grand scheme of things, I know nothing. When I talk to you about topics like parenting, I dispense advice extrapolated from reading academic literature, from anecdotal observation and from my own experiences with my family… But I’m totally out of my depth, I don’t have kids (and almost certainly can’t
), I don’t even have a partner…
I do however like talking about a diverse, dynamic range of topics. Even subjects I know very little about.
I’m specifying this as the last thing I want is to come across as an arrogant, entitled little bitch. I don’t know everything about adulthood. I’m barely an adult myself.
My comments on the article
Masculine ideals are frowned upon nowdays. Traditionally masculine traits are seen as “toxic”, but interestingly enough when women display the same attributes one would consider “toxic” in a male it is celebrated. You’ll see this in media quite a bit, even sitcoms where an abusive, crazy female partner is used as a comedic tool over a string of episodes.
Reverse those roles around
I believe men are turning to porn because porn allows for a very quick means to get off. If you’re not having sex, it’s an alternate avenue. You can tickle the one eyed snake without it, but the dopaminergic surge isn’t going to be there as it would with pornography or real life sexual relations. My views on pornography as of recent have flip flopped. Morally, I find myself repulsed by the nature of the industry that churns out this content and therefore I am trying my best to stop looking at it for good.
I don’t think it ought to be illegal as not everyone feels the same way I do and there is a valid argument to be made about regulation, consent and a right for grown adults to view adult content… However I would appreciate it if effective safeguards could be implemented.
Actually I’m fine with some of the more extreme stuff (the kind of content max hardcore was arrested for) being outright banned as that actually does involve hurting people. Problem is bans don’t work, drives it underground. I don’t credit politicians with enough foresight to be able to effectively ban extreme pornography without leading to a black market of which ultimately results in an even more exploitation, human rights abuses etc. Though it’s already a poorly regulated industry, a ban on that opens up the prospect of prosecution. Anyone making that kind of shit SHOULD be prosecuted (unless it’s animated/not real). But what percentage who make this content would end up actually facing justice at the hands of the law? For every one they catch, there will probably be one hundred more operating.
Example of the bans… Australia regulates pornography. Pornographic material is like playboy is available to those 15+ for the most part. Hardcore pornography is 18+ and the ‘extreme’ content/some mainstream content is flat out illegal to possess on paper. Hasn’t stopped anyone from watching or manufacturing it…
As to video games. I don’t play video games anymore, I think they’re a waste of time and I’m not terrible at them because I haven’t played them in so long so it’s extremely embarrassing whenever I pick up a controlled and play in front of anyone. But men and women alike turn to them because they’re a loooooooooot of fun.
My brother has a PlayStation 4, we have a VR headset you can attach to it and a gun shaped controller. There’s this one game we have where you are an astronaut on Mars and you’re shooting aliens in virtual reality, it’s REALLY fun. I can see how someone would be content doing that all day @BrickHead
I think everyone here knows you’re a nice guy. And it’s just conversations on a forum.
This is the game I was talking about
And you can look down the sights of the weapon too!!!
I no longer need to get married… I have my fantasy alien world on MARS!!
Well a quick bit of google work to find the salary for the a Polish doctor. It is about PLZ 6500 a month.
A phone call to my Polish mate. At home they earn about PLN 3000PLN a month as a trades man.
Also if wages were that bad for Polish Doctor they have the whole of the EU to work in.
I call bull crap. On all of our post. A car mechanic driving a £100k car? Doubt ful.
@BrickHead - if I come over confrontational I’m not meaning to be. It just “passion over flowing”. You can call me a “Social justice warrior with a sensible head”. For instance - I think women should be allowed to perform front line combat roles in the military. But only if they achieve the same standards as the men. Including strength and fitness.
I guess my point was this - why bring up the differing diverse rates if you where not trying to imply something by it? It feels like you are placing your requirement for a woman to be a home maker above her right to be free.
On the diverice rates: sure - becoming a successful person changes you. For most it is not a good change. But everyone should have the right to chase their own dream. And pointing out that women doing that hurts marriage rate, without pointing out that men doing also hurts marriage rates seems disingenuous.
FYI I think you are a nice guy to!
I think I watched this segment from Bill Burr around a decade ago although the video in the link was posted in 2017:
Although it’s about “White Guilt”, at the 5min mark, he’s talking about movies where a White chick goes to a poor Black neighbourhood like in Dangerous Minds and makes some kind of difference.
He’s referencing some Hilary Swank movie that I’ve never heard of:
“Do I even have to see it? Lemme guess. She shows up and they don’t accept her, right? Then she goes home. She’s crying to her effeminate boyfriend who’s wearing sweatpants and he’s cooking something for some reason, right?”.
Fucking remember laughing myself into an asthma attack.
EDIT:
Oops, forgot the one about Toxic Masculinity LMAO!!! (Trigger warning: contains very non/un(?)-PC language):
“Oh it’s brutal. Even if you do something smart… like it’s raining now… HE’S GOT AN UMBRELLA!!! What a f-g! What are you afraid of? The water?”.
Fucking gets me every time.
P.S The sitcom Married… with Children was pretty funny but they fucking banned multiple episodes where I lived.
So… In the few days before I leave I’m no longer working. I’ll pack up my stuff and have a little break from my chaotic agenda
Do you know what that means? I can put on the VR HEADSET and go to MARS!!!
Actually, I’ll probably go to the beach, put a towel down, take a nap and perhaps wake up with a sunburn all over my body.
Whatever I do, you can rest assured it will involve taking a VERY satisfying nap. I can imagine it now! Fluffy pillows, comfortable mattress that doesn’t hurt my back, some BRUTAL DEATH METAL (jokes … regular death metal is fine…) on in the background to serve as a means to relax me
Here you are projecting again. You should really stop doing that when arguing. I ve said I not think I need to connect on a deep level with my partner on phylosophical, political and other complex topics. I rather romance, plan, do stuff with my girl.
For example she is kind of a bottanist. I like taking her for a walk and listening to her enjoying the trees, the grasses and the flowers. She names them and shows them to me and she is really enjoying it. We connect that way. Rather than getting in a deep conversation of the vaccines and the future with Covid.
Or she is also kind of a landshaft architect. She draws stuff and shows them to me, explaining her drawings. While I show her my tactical drawnings, training plans and etc. Even I discuss my team talks with her. Last match I had the team talks before the game were inspired with her. I am coaching an amateur team, we were going away from home to a team nobody has won against in the past 8 years. They are not moving to professional due to lack of finances. Anyway last year they did not come to the game in our stadium. So her idea for motivation was to note on that. That we need to show up, so we earn respect and make them come next time. Needless to say my team showed up. Oponents won with a goal in the 85th minute and celabrated like little kids. There were red cards, hard tackles and a real battle on the field. The boys were inspired to prove their worth and I think they did it.
So yeah I rather do that with my girl than argue politics.
Why is that? What complex deep topics do you wish to connect on with your partner?
Different interpersonal dynamics within relationships exist. The dynamic that suits one may not suit another
It’s not black and white. Your perceived ideal/what works for you may not work for me.
I happen to hold the ability to have intellectual conversations with people in high regard, others don’t. I don’t like being told to “speak English” or to “stop using big words”. Having a partner constantly reiterate this to me would serve to be very irritating.
The way by which I articulate myself is fundamentally a part of who I am.
I would like to come back to boys in schools as I have a real life struggle. My future brother in law is an excellent wrestler. He finished 2nd in European Championship until 16 years old with a torn rotator. The dude lost the final 2-1 with 1 hand basically. He is a text book wrestler. Very technical, very strong and surprice, surprice very tactical. The boy coached his coaches to a passive strategy that lead him to a final, which he barelly lost, when everyone told him he should not wrestle.
However he is very poor in school. He is just not interested. You may call him dumb, because he doeant know that Milky Way is our galaxy and that the Sun is not a planet. However the boy is smart, very coachable, learns techniques and studies wrestling books. So where the school left him according to you? Why the boy fails in the current education system, and why he is one of the best in the world in another education system?
Different models work for different people
Hence one of the biggest problems with our public schooling curriculum pertains to how uniform it is. Even private schooling to a degree favours one approach, the environment isn’t dynamic as to cater towards individualistic learning styles
For the majority, this works. For the minority who subsist outside of this mould, it’s a problem
As a result you’ll find some very smart people who did terribly in school. Quintin Tarantino was a dropout…
However you’ve also got trade school, arts/music school and more. You don’t have to take up a traditional, academically focused education… But you do need to take up a method of acquiring the skills required to survive in the workplace.
Remember… I’m just a kiddo, I don’t know everything and I’ve made a LOT of bad, albeit not seriously life altering decisions throughout my short time on this earth. Take my opinion with a grain of salt.
All in all, with whatever you do from an academic standpoint my biggest concern is “will you be able to get a job that pays out a decent salary (enough to support a family), comes with decent insurance (if in US) and entitles you to a decent retirement at a reasonable age etc.”,
Not everyone needs to be an astronaut. Wrestling is awesome, but it isn’t long term. I train in combat sports around 8-9 hours per week because it’s fun, alongside weight training and a physically demanding job. This paradigm is not sustainable and I’ve already racked up numerous nagging injuries, one of which may be quite serious but I’m still training because as specified “bad decisions”… I’m in a lot of pain every day… Sad face… More complaining…
I can only imagine the level of intensity required by which one needs to constantly train at to become a professional wrestler. Wrestling to my knowledge actually has one of the highest rates of opiate painkiller abuse out of all professions. So say he can wrestle and goes pro/semi pro. What after that? What’s the fallback plan? You can’t wrestle forever.
Perhaps he can make enough money to retire early… But this is Greco Roman wrestling, not WWE.
