After AC III, I don’t know. I was SORELY disappointed with that game. The game itself was okay I suppose, but it seems like everything was thrown off by the pacing.

I’ll still end up getting it at some point, since I’m in it for the story at this point, but with everything else on the horizon this holiday season, I probably won’t get it Day One.

And speaking of all the games I’m getting this holiday season, I’m glad I now finally have a good paying, stable job and I know realize why I used to bootleg all this stuff when I was young and broke: this gaming shit can get EXPENSIVE.

But I guess that goes for anything.

Diablo 3 (PS3) review: 3/5 - Note I haven’t played any other Diablo game at least that I can remember.

Diablo 3 is exactly what you expect it to be. It’s a button masher all the way with a lot of good mixed with a few flaws.

1.) Game Play 4/5: It’s fun if you enjoy this type of game. Diablo follows the typical formula for these types of games and does it very well. It reminded me a lot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Gauntlet Legends with much more depth. The camera works very well too. You also have an opportunity to have a follower, which you can upgrade, that provides support. It’s a nice feature if you play alone. They don’t help a lot, but they do help. I did not try multiplayer.

2.) Controls 3/5: The controls translate well on the PS3. All of your attacks are mapped to the PS3 controller just fine. Every now and then you’ll hit the, “Power attack,” (not sure what else to call it - R2) button once and your character will execute the attack multiple times. It can be a pain because you run out of mana or whatever, but for the most part it’s not a big deal. two other attacks (square and triangle) have to recharge after each use, but the game doesn’t show or tell you when they’re ready. You basically have to guess and hope they work (it’s like a 15-30 second delay). The one annoying thing (and it’s minor) is that every single time you use square, the character will tell you the attach isn’t ready right after doing it. Every single time…

  1. Upgrade system: There is a lot more depth here than I expected. As you’d expect you are constantly picking up new gear. What I liked (and didn’t expect) was early on you get a blacksmith that can be trained and will build items for you. These items tended to be very powerful compared to items found with the exception of those dropped after, “Boss,” Fights. There are also a lot of choices for each attack button (5 choices per button if I remember correctly), and upgrades to those as well plus a passive attribute with about 25 choices (unlocked through leveling up).

  2. Graphics 4/5: The game looks very good on the PS3. It won’t blow your mind, but it looks good. Very clean and crisp. Animations, especially when you kill something, are a nice touch. Cut scenes look very good.

5.) Story 2/5: The story is a bit generic and predictable at least thus far (I am in Act II about 6 hours for me. I typically play games slow when alone). The voice acting is decent (some of the voices are recognizable), but the dialogue is dry and boring.

Overall it’s fun. I can see a lot of replay value if you like playing with other people or have friends that’ll play it. There are multiple difficulties and at least 1 that can be unlocked (nightmare mode). I played mostly as the Warrior (or Barbarian). I tried a few others for a couple of minutes and I’m sure they are just as fun. [/quote]

Thanks for in depth response, you have pretty much persuaded me to get it over gta 5 lol.

Just bought Dragon’s Crown and again Vanillaware has hit the sweet spot as they did Muramasa Rebirth for PS Vita, they definitely are the games that made worth buying the console.

The art is gorgeous and it’s a very fun beat’em up.

That’s pretty funny. I think GTA V is gonna be 1000x better, but it’s a completely different game and it really just depends on the individual.

I still play my Genesis collection once or twice a month so…

Waiting for Dragon’s Crown to go on sale. That game looks sweet. Speaking of the Vita and being a somewhat of a nerd…I called off work today to go get my copy of Killzone Mercenary. The games getting good reviews and the Beta was awesome.

I am still considering it just because of how groundbreaking it will be, would rather play it whilst its fresh and ride the wave than have to look back it when it is dated.

The multi-player sounds just insane too.

AC III from what I hear failed with the large open world concept. Black Flag looks like it did a good job implementing it from the previews I’ve seen. That being said, I hope all the missions and side missions are unique and fun - I could care less about collecting random flags or data fragments lol.

I watched a few videos on the new Assassins Creed last night and damn if it doesn’t look good. The ship battles look like a lot of fun.

I tried the demo for PS3 just to see how it felt. Considering that there is no auction house in the console version (which was literally the worst feature of the entire game) and it has all the awesome improvements they made to the game since its release, im definitely going to get it…when the PS4 version releases.

Was awesome seeing it on my 60" plasma though. Having direct control over the character is so much better than the point and click navigation/combat.

ACIII didnt “fail” with its open wilderness environments, but it didnt live up to expectations and a lot of it certainly felt like filler. Was also frustrating to navigate at times as well.

Also, the side missions in it were the most boring of any of the AC games since 1 in my opinion. Upgrading your homestead is completely unnecessary/negligible.

The main story is pretty awesome and the Desmond sequences are probably the best in the series.

Black Flag does look to have mastered the wilderness navigation though, everything looks improved over 3. Hopefuly the main character is more charismatic too. Ezio was so awesome, Connor just couldnt fill those shoes. It was especially a let down after how fun the intro to III was (MINOR SPOILER) playing as his father, Haythem for the first hour or 2.

On the subject of GTAV, did anybody else read that the budget for it was 265 freaking million dollars? That is far and away the most expensive videogame of all time, and even costs more than all but like 2 of the biggest budget hollywood films ever made. Hell, its a bigger budget than Avatar had.

Holy hell its gonna be epic.

Did they really? They must be awful confident their gonna make some serious sales. That’s what 4.5 million copies to break even (that’s assuming they get all $60 which they don’t).

Don’t know how accurate the list is, but GTA V has to do pretty good to re-coup that kind of money.

GTA IV grossed $500 million in its first week. And it appears that the demand for GTA V is going to be the same, if not greater, than what is was when IV was released. And even prior to GTA IV, every game in the Grand Theft Auto franchise was pretty much THE best-selling game when it was released in its time.

So they have every reason to be confident that they’re going to make their money back.

It will make money. The hype is just too huge and from all the hands on impressions ive read, the game is going to live up to it.

Wow.

Yeah, i think its safe to say they will get a pretty good return on their investment.

Kind of want to blow all of my hard-earned gym membership money on the next-gen and a plethora of beautiful, beautiful games. Less than a week now and I at least get to see how GTA5 turns out before I can find a way to buy it, so much excitement.
