GTA 4 probably wasn’t even the best game that came out that month. Episodes from liberty city was a improvement though and GTA5 looks great. Hopefully it awesome because I caved and preordered it the other night.
The average critic score of 98 on metacritic (making it the highest reviewed game of this console generation) would disagree.
You can only trust critics so far though.
What I remember from GTA IV is a move too far in the direction of realism to the point where I felt like I was going to have to sit down and do Niko’s taxes every so often. It was a bunch of checking emails and taking your brother to the fucking bowling alley and taking some bitch out and whatever. That’s what drove me to Saint’s Row III.
In general, metacritic aggregate review scores for games are usually pretty accurate/helpful, though i dont think GTAIV should be the best reviewed game of the generation, not even by a long shot. Especially considering that it somehow ranks above Uncharted 2.
In regarnds to all the emails and buddy dates and shit, thankfully you can choose to easily ignore pretty much all of that stuff with little to no consequence, which is what i did. Maybe thats why i enjoyed it more. I did enjoy the cell phone mechanic though, i hope they expand upon that in some way for V.
I cant get into Saint’s Row because if a story is TOO silly or inconsequential then i never do anything but fuck around until im bored. Same thing happened to me with Just Cause 2. Gameplay was a blast at first but once i realized how little i cared about the actual story, it got old pretty quick.
