The average critic score of 98 on metacritic (making it the highest reviewed game of this console generation) would disagree.
You can only trust critics so far though.

What I remember from GTA IV is a move too far in the direction of realism to the point where I felt like I was going to have to sit down and do Niko’s taxes every so often. It was a bunch of checking emails and taking your brother to the fucking bowling alley and taking some bitch out and whatever. That’s what drove me to Saint’s Row III.
In general, metacritic aggregate review scores for games are usually pretty accurate/helpful, though i dont think GTAIV should be the best reviewed game of the generation, not even by a long shot. Especially considering that it somehow ranks above Uncharted 2.

In regarnds to all the emails and buddy dates and shit, thankfully you can choose to easily ignore pretty much all of that stuff with little to no consequence, which is what i did. Maybe thats why i enjoyed it more. I did enjoy the cell phone mechanic though, i hope they expand upon that in some way for V.

I cant get into Saint’s Row because if a story is TOO silly or inconsequential then i never do anything but fuck around until im bored. Same thing happened to me with Just Cause 2. Gameplay was a blast at first but once i realized how little i cared about the actual story, it got old pretty quick.

I need a new medieval rpg, have been fun playing Dragon Age: Origins again, anyone recommends anything in the same vein?

even trying coming back to Diablo 3(coming back and dying in seconds on Inferno) and TorchLight II but i’m kind of saturated from both.

Dude who doesn’t like Saints Row??? I mean, in what other game can you beat a rival gang to death using a giant purple dildo bat?

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your pov, FPS like COD & BF have ruined the genre for a lot of people. Aliens is fun in a lot of ways, but it doesn’t have the depth, detail, or mechanics of the bigger franchises. Games like that never get a lot of love, which I understand. They can be a lot of fun though.

It’s like when Duke Nuken came out a few years ago. Did a lot of the mechanics suck, yes. Was it a great game, no. It was still fun to stop in the middle of an alien invasion to lift some weights and juice up!

I guess I’m just a fan of almost anything. Very few games in my mind truly suck that’s for sure.

Ya, it’s probably not all that bad for you though. I’m convinced about 90% of American gamers are total dick bags.

Dragon Age origins was fantastic. I thought it straddled the nerdy RPG menu intensive and easy interface worlds very well.

The quickest answer is the expansion/add on Dragon Age: Awakening. It is more of the same, but the same is still fun.

DAII was a huge let down, but some folks liked it.

The Witcher II is different, but still very well done. If you never tried it out, you might like it.

IF I had faith in Bioware I would be excited for next gen consoles and the new Dragon Age.

For serious, GTAV is going to be the best game of this year, if not this generation. Everything ive seen/read on it so far suggests it will not only live up to the hype, but exceed any expectations you can possible set upon it.
Honest question, did you like GTA IV?

I want to jump on the bandwagon, but after IV I am having a once bitten, twice shy thing going on.

Not as bad as with Bioware. DAII and the last 20min of ME3 have pretty much crippled my enthusiasm for new Bioware games.

Robert A
I thought GTA IV was amazing, quite possibly the best game of this generation, but I can understand why other people didn’t like it.

If you feel that way about it, I’d say get it, and if you don’t like it, trade it in at Gamestop or Best Buy.

I feel you on Mass Effect 3 too.

For a series that has always been about choice and how they affect the world around you, I didn’t have too much of a choice in those final moments.
You went too far with that GTA was quite possibly the best game of this generation…
Eh…maybe…but again, that’s just my opinion. I’m sure my opinion will change once GTAV comes out though.
I may do the buy then Rage Trade thing.

I think that part of my issue with GTAIV was that I didn’t do any/enough online reading, so I thought the phone missions were more important than they were. Still, huge letdown.

Robert A

Same here. Its one of my top 5 favorite current gen series. A lot of people cry about the annual installments but i think that they have yet to release a game that wasnt fantastic since the first one, and even though 3 didnt live up to my expectations, it was still a great game.

Black Flag is shaping up to be the best one in the series since II. And thats saying a lot because Brotherhood and Revelations were both awesome.

On the fence, I agree about 3 being alittle bit of a let down so I’m hesitant to get this one. I also don’t have much interest in the boat gameplay so I’m probably going to end up waiting until the price drops for this one especially with a few other games coming out that I want and hopefully a some of the older games I want go on sale during the holidays.

Gamefly should be delivering it today for PS3. It looks pretty good.

Let me know how it plays on PS3, if its amazing I might dingy GTA V for it.
Diablo 3 (PS3) review: 3/5 - Note I haven’t played any other Diablo game at least that I can remember.

Diablo 3 is exactly what you expect it to be. It’s a button masher all the way with a lot of good mixed with a few flaws.

1.) Game Play 4/5: It’s fun if you enjoy this type of game. Diablo follows the typical formula for these types of games and does it very well. It reminded me a lot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Gauntlet Legends with much more depth. The camera works very well too. You also have an opportunity to have a follower, which you can upgrade, that provides support. It’s a nice feature if you play alone. They don’t help a lot, but they do help. I did not try multiplayer.

2.) Controls 3/5: The controls translate well on the PS3. All of your attacks are mapped to the PS3 controller just fine. Every now and then you’ll hit the, “Power attack,” (not sure what else to call it - R2) button once and your character will execute the attack multiple times. It can be a pain because you run out of mana or whatever, but for the most part it’s not a big deal. two other attacks (square and triangle) have to recharge after each use, but the game doesn’t show or tell you when they’re ready. You basically have to guess and hope they work (it’s like a 15-30 second delay). The one annoying thing (and it’s minor) is that every single time you use square, the character will tell you the attach isn’t ready right after doing it. Every single time…

 1. Upgrade system: There is a lot more depth here than I expected. As you’d expect you are constantly picking up new gear. What I liked (and didn’t expect) was early on you get a blacksmith that can be trained and will build items for you. These items tended to be very powerful compared to items found with the exception of those dropped after, “Boss,” Fights. There are also a lot of choices for each attack button (5 choices per button if I remember correctly), and upgrades to those as well plus a passive attribute with about 25 choices (unlocked through leveling up).

 2. Graphics 4/5: The game looks very good on the PS3. It won’t blow your mind, but it looks good. Very clean and crisp. Animations, especially when you kill something, are a nice touch. Cut scenes look very good.

5.) Story 2/5: The story is a bit generic and predictable at least thus far (I am in Act II about 6 hours for me. I typically play games slow when alone). The voice acting is decent (some of the voices are recognizable), but the dialogue is dry and boring.

Overall it’s fun. I can see a lot of replay value if you like playing with other people or have friends that’ll play it. There are multiple difficulties and at least 1 that can be unlocked (nightmare mode). I played mostly as the Warrior (or Barbarian). I tried a few others for a couple of minutes and I’m sure they are just as fun.

Yeah, i wasnt huge on the boat battles in ACIII, but its definitely got my interest after watching all the gameplay videos released so far. It looks like theyve expanded/improved upon it a great but, and the environment is just so damn beautiful to look at.
