See, I agree, I think the movie looks flat out amazing. This makes my current ongoing debate with a self-proclaimed superfan confusing though, because he is inconsolable over the direction Abrams has taken the franchise. I really don’t see it, nothing I’ve seen of the movie so far gives me any pause as to its merit as both an entertaining blockbuster and a solid story from a beloved franchise.

Is he a devout fan of the original series’ and films? The Shatner ones specifically? I find a few people that dislike it on the concept that it’s “too actiony” or “Chris Pine makes Kirk look too whiny and not badass enough”. Which are both silly, they’re silly, Abrams did an incredible job with the first and no doubt he will be steadfast in that quality when making the second.

It’s almost like people need a reason to hate it because the new stuff is too shiny and clean compared to the vintage old stuff. I met a couple people that hated The Evil Dead, on that alone. Had there been no original, I’m sure they would have loved it, but they have that air of superiority when it comes to tv and movie nostalgia. Abrams is no stranger to a good directive project, we can trust him to make Into Darkness into one of the best films of 2013, which I expect it likely will be, if not the best on numerous levels. Sometimes people will get pissy over anything if they hold it closely enough, I know I hold films so close sometimes that I get a little testy when someone bashes my favourites, it’s just how things go.

Abrams is apparently not a Trek fan, but that isn’t even important to me at all.

I was thinking after the last shitty Next Generation movie that they needed to make Trek fun again and before the 2009 Abrams Trek movie came out I thought they had to go back to young Kirk in a yellow uniform and all that because the original show was way-out-there fun.

The way to show how memorable the original show is, even a non-fan can recall about a dozen episodes just by what happened in them…I mean liek this:

The one with the little furballs.

The one where Kirk fought a lizard man.

The one with evil counterparts with goatees.

The one with people whose faces are half black and half white.

The one with the huge cone that eats planets.

The one with JOnan Collins and the stone donut time machine.

The one with Romans.

The one with Nazis.

The one with a Greek god.

The one where…well you get the idea. That show really sticks out and had a lot more fun that the later shows did.

PS: In the new movie the bad guy (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) is called John Harrison. That’s my dad’s name. That’s cool to me.

So I wasn’t expecting this, new Bethesda survival-horror game from Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil creator). I feel like using a ton of creepy and gory footage that is not at all reminiscent of what’s been programmed into the game itself is kind of a cop-out. However, if this turns out to actually be good, I may pick it up on the next-gen.

Shit, the first one was so open ended and lost in direction I am not sure I am losing sleep over it.

The first one looked great…but the writers fell a asleep before act 3.

This will be awesome. Now, if they could only move it along.

Agreed, I trust Mikami because of his involvement in the original Resident Evil and then the new direction they decided to take by the time Resident Evil 4 came around. It might not be as creepy-scary as I’d like it to be, because I haven’t caught that from Resident Evil games, at least in a good amount of years, but they may bump it up a notch in this, I’m sure sooner or later Bethesda will show some game footage once they surpass alpha development.

Kinda late for tay to make the cover but this is still amazing. Skyrim MAIN THEME! - "Dragonborn" - Tay Zonday - On iTunes! - YouTube

I have a question for some of you tech savvy basterds…

I am looking to get an iPad 3, my question is, is it worth it to get one that has been unlocked or "jail broke " ?

What are the pros and cons of jail-breaking a device like this (tablet, smartphone, etc) ?

Its when you get it cheaper but it will only work with a specific provider.

To jailbreak means to make it work with the provider of your choice.

Only if you are interested in adding features that aren’t available to non jailbroken device.

Downsides are -

Jailbroken phones are more prone to malware because apps can be downloaded from unofficial repositories.

You will probably have to “unjailbreak” (restore the stock OS) if you are trying to bring the device in under warranty.

Anwyays, like I said, only reason to jailbreak is if you need to add features that apple doesn’t make available.

Jailbreaking really isn’t all that hard. There are a million tutorials out there.

Basically it gives you more freedom to customize the phone/ipad. You can still install apps from outside the app store, and you can modify the user interface in a couple of different ways. I jailbroke my iphone for a bit and basically I could install widgets/toggles, use Siri to turn off wifi (something you can’t do without jailbreak), and set different types of automation like if I am on home wifi my phone no longer requires a password. It’s very easy to do and can easily be undone with no damage/loss of data as long as you back your phone up before hand.

It’s different than unlocking which just means that it can be used on a different carrier if you bought it on contract.
