I’ve never been a big fan of the PSP or DS, but I don’t really have time when traveling to game. Either way, this would be a really good integration of a phone and gaming device, since I’ve always found playing games on normal smartphones to be very awkward.

PSP + GOOD phone hardware and software = fantastic idea.

This is what they have to say about it so far:

“Right now we’re working on getting even more detail about the phone and partnership, but we can tell you now that this is not a random rumor – we have reason to believe that what we’ve heard and seen is real and coming to market. It makes perfect sense in a way – Google gets a much-needed push into the gaming and entertainment space for Android, while Sony (via its partnership with Ericsson) finally delivers the PlayStation phone users have been wanting. We see it as a major win for both companies and the consumer… and we always need another distraction. Stay tuned to this space for updates as we get them, and in the meantime, start socking away the pennies.”

Why not just get something like the Samsung Galaxy S and emulate NES through PS1 on it? Honestly how much gaming are you going to do on your phone?

Sorry, but the N-Gage was a piece of shit. Nokia’s OS is a piece of shit, too. Symbian is so outdated it’s not even funny, they need to hurry up with refreshing it to stay in the game.

I mean, games on the iPhone getting more popular than any device, but playing games on it sucks IMO.

My point was more like combining a modern smartphone with a PSP would be much more effective.
Agreed. I am assuming he has never actually played a psp to compare the two.

PSP is a great device alone with very easy to use software that is compatible with the PS3. Add a phone onto game play and video like that and I’ll pick one up quickly long before I buy an iPhone.

They still need a retractable keyboard though because surfing the net on one of those while entering everything with the joystick takes too much time.
I was pointing out that the last time someone tried the phone-handheld mash up, it was a complete and utter failure. Sony has the technology to do make this work, but it’s really a question of whether or not a phone handheld is what the community wants.

A phone and game console are two things that don’t have to be melded into one. My Xbox doesn’t make toast, but that doesn’t mean I need a Toastbox 360 that plays games and makes poptarts.

although i could probably fry eggs on the power supply. what were we talking about again?

oh yeah. combining two different electronics with two very different primary functions dampens the quality of the overall product. I would rather have a phone that works really well as a phone, and a handheld that plays really well as a handheld, without shoehorning all the features (but more importantly hardware) into one cramped space.

you smell what i’m steppin in?
It catches the market of guys like me…guys who don’t give a shit about a smart phone, who don’t spend all day making long ass text messages but who will play some Tekken during down times at work and having the ability to watch a movie in high quality at that size doesn’t hurt either.

We aren’t talking about some weak ass game titles sold only to fill space. GOW was released on psp as a prequel meaning people who don’t have one but like that game are missing a chapter.

Again, the Galaxy S doesn’t have a keyboard/controller. It’s done via the screen and accelerometers, which sucks.

I’m not much of a mobile gamer, but there are lots of people out there that do. Imagine you catch a train for an hour to work, one way? There is a big market for it, even though I’m not particularly interested I still think it’s a good idea if they make it work.

We’ll have to see how it all pans out. It has potential, i’ll admit. However Sony seems to be trying to cram a lot of features into that little box, which might limit the game tech quite a bit.

I think at the moment, Sony has a bit of stepping up to do in the console market. That new 360 S is doing pretty well, and when Kinect comes along Microsoft will be gaining quite a few new customers.

Their new upcoming phone is also going to gain the attention of mobile gamers, I’m certainly looking to make the Win Phone 7 my next purchase - depending on the hardware that is.

Sir you must not be a phone whore like myself.

This is the Galaxy S and it will be on the big 3 carriers in the US (I don’t know about you Euro fags)

I can tell you that there needs to be a major leap in battery technology before anything like a “PSP ish” cell phone could be considered practical. This isn’t the 90s, no one wants something the size of a VCR for a hand held device. No matter how much hamburger you eat…

That Galaxy S is gay, this is the real version which we have.

I didn’t say anywhere that I wanted a phone that can play games. I said say it’s a cool idea, that’s it.

You’re all wrong.

The slide out keyboard is the Galaxy S Pro, only available on Sprint (well, so far only Sprint has announced it), while the other carrier versions are:

  1. T-Mobile: Samsung Vibrant
  2. AT&T: Samsung Captivate (different body design)
  3. Verizon: Samsung Fascinate (same body as Vibrant, but with 2 GB internal memory instead of 16 on the Vibrant)

The Sprint version is the only one with a front-facing camera. And RSGZ is right, the keyboard makes the phone way too thick.

We shouldn’t (as in, it should not come out until) see mobile gaming/Smartphone hybrids until nVidia releases the Tegra 2 chipset en masse and Samsung brings a handset that utilizes Tegra 2 plus Samsung’s Super-AMOLED display, the latter being much more power efficient than other displays and simply stunning to look at.

I want to see a 4" S-AMOLED, Tegra 2, 2-4 GB RAM, 16-32 GB onboard, SDXC (full sized) slot for cards much greater than 64 GB, and new battery tech. The phone should last at least a full day (over 20 hours) with HEAVY use:

  1. 2 hours of phone calls
  2. 30-50 texts
  3. 1 hr browsing
    4)30 shots with still camera

And all antennas on. CIPA or FCC should set up some sort of testing parameter standard like that.

More importantly, to speed up all this innovation, the FCC needs to mandate carrier unlocked phones so customer mobility is a constant liability for carriers, forcing them to give us better plans and customer service.

And here we see the downfall of Star Wars a deleted scene from Jedi why was this scene cut yet the teddy bear picnic allowed to stay.

While that’s all well and good. An insanely fast phone will do you no good without decent peripherals. I can’t play shit on my Galaxy-S even with the 1ghz processor and huge ass screen.

I mean the goddamned PSP is running 333 Mhz, while it also has a dedicated graphics card, the new phones with a much faster processor and decent graphics technology should be able to pump out something pretty decent in 3d.

Honestly i think the main issue is that the code just isn’t there, there aren’t any real 3D engines written for phones that are backed by any real companies.

Interesting. I would’ve thought that could happily handle lots of mobile games?

Maybe Microsoft will introduce a mobile DirectX into their range of phones.
