Gaming and All Its Glory

Oh, ya man. I grew up on Shinning Force for Genesis. Turn based RPGs are my childhood.

I just got Medieval 2 Total War for $6 on steam. It’s considered the best Total War. I had never played anything from the franchise.

Now that is a strategy/tactics game. So many awesome mechanics that affect gameplay. Damn AI is treacherous AF. I just disbanded my diplomats and went ham on them the third time I got betrayed. Captured Rome and murdered the Pope, excommunicate me… I dare you. If you conquer all the Catholic factions first then excommunication loses its teeth… except for the public order bonus.

Also I now hate Milan more than the Mongols. I’m going to get the SS mod after the first play through.

Never got into the heavy strategy game myself. It always seemed like too much work. It sounds like fun, though.

*My buddies are into the one where you build spaceships and have whole armadas. It sounds awesome, but it’s way too involved for me, lol.

It is? I really like it, but this is the first time I’ve heard someone call it the best Total War game.

Other great games from the series:

  • Shogun 2, including Fall of the Samurai. The only downside is the relatively small map and the fact that there’s not much difference between the factions. In every other sense, this is the pinnacle of the series in my opinion, especially FotS.

  • Napoleon & Empire: These cover similar eras. Empire has the considerable advantage of including North and Middle America and India while Napoleon just looks better visually and has a great campaign.

Never really been a fan of Rome, allthough it’s been my first taste of Total War.

I heard that from a guy who claimed it’s the most immersive with the most dynamic economy. Especially managing the populations in the cities. I might get around to those, eventually. I allocate 2 hours to gaming per week.

The AI is a bit dumb with yolo charges sometimes. Can’t beat the setting for me.

What is the spaceship game of which you speak?

What I really like about Medieval 2 is that once you win the campaign, you can play as any faction you like. I definately miss that feature in later games, there’s just something about beginning as some small obscure little strip of land and leading it to total world domination, much more satisfying than starting with an already great country.

I’m pretty sure it’s called Eve.

I thought about starting a Sicily run using Mafia rules. Assassinate enemy family members wherever possible and use diplomats to trick the enemy and keep the Pope happy. No castles or professional soldiers, only cities with a big focus on trade and money. Own the entire cardinals college and assassinate rivals for the papacy. Bribe your Pope into calling crusades against your enemies.

I spent an awful lot of time during my 2nd year at college playing that game instead of studying.

Totally worth it.

It’s a phenomenal game.

Somehow missed his awhile back.

Fallout is amazing. 2, 3, and NV anyway. 4 was fun and looked great, but lacked WAY too much for my liking. Getting rid of karma was a big no no for me as well as only having a few dialogue options. It’s only playable on PC imo if you want a good time. Skyrim goes here for me too. I liked it originally, but after how many times they’ve pushed it on new consoles, VR, etc. I’m over it. Still, I have 100-300 hours invested in each of these titles.

Bioshock 1 and 2 are some of my favorites I still play on off days when I want something fun and exciting to play.

Dark Souls are perfect except for 2. 1 and 3 are great games along with Demon Souls, but the best game ever for me would have to be Bloodborne. Beautiful scenery, amazing storyline and DLC. It moves so fast and really engulfs you.

This was one of THE GAMES for me growing up and the new looks like it’s going to blow everything GoW out of the water.

Also…any Cuphead players?

It’s Dark Souls 3 @BEAst_in_I

Dancer of the Borreal Valley.

It’s a she I believe.

I’m not a pyromancer though. I chose to opt for sorcerer, so it didn’t really occur to me to build any fire power.

Believe me im trying. Everytime i summon someone they fuck it up, like right at the very end.

Yeah, haven’t played beyond the first 30 minutes of 3. I need to though.

I’ve spent a decent chuck of today just “Gittin Gud”
As Hugh suggested.

I’ve been saving attacks when I summon people, and after a majority of our group dies off I try to fight her alone. She has a pattern, but I don’t know all of it yet.

Never summon pls. I hate the term “Git Gud,” but you kind of have to with her. What’s your build like? For me, I hardly wear any armor and use the scythe. I dodge roll everything. So the dancer was like a 2 try thing for me.
