Game of Thrones 2: A Clash of Kings

Im not sure if it i missed it but, it looks like they’ve written out reek. I don’t see how that’s possible, while keeping the story ADWD intact.

SPOILERS UP TO STORM OF SWORDS

I hate how they are changing shit that does not need to be changed.

They did so well in season 1 not sure why change crap now.

Tywin is a vagina and not the heartless bastard you see in the books

Dany is a cunt and wtf is up with her dragons being stolen now?

Theon deserves what he gets

Brianne of tarth is a monster fits it perfectly,

Gregor is going to be a d-bag since its that tall skinny white walker from season 1 instead of man beast conan.
I think Tywin is being done well. He likes Arya because she’s a bold, brave, intelligent little thing. I think the book version of Tywin would have liked her as well. I believe Roose Bolton took a shine to her in the books. He is very similar to Tywin Lannister so it’s a reasonable parallel.

Agree that Dany is much more ridiculous than she was in the books, as I mentioned in my post above. I am not happy with how she’s been portrayed the last few episodes.

I don’t think the new Gregor (agree that he sucks) is going to get any screen time the rest of the season. I’m speculating that they’re keeping him ambiguous so Conan Stevens can come back for the fight with Oberyn, which is the only really important thing The Mountain does (while actually present with the POV character) in the series thus far.
If I wasn’t paying attention, I would think Tywin was a little soft. But the way he’s acted around his council is very revealing to me. He comes across as the Tywin we know, as it were. Maybe that’s just me seeing what I want to see, but I think it’s legitimate.

Unfortunately I think Dany’s portrayal is a reflection of fan sentiment. Most fans of the series seem to hate her, so it stands to reason the producers of the show are pandering to that dislike. I love her character, but I’m certainly in the minority.

And I don’t necessarily like Sandor in the show. He seems a bit too subdued to me. In the books I always got the feeling he was one second from boiling over, but in the show he just seems too much like his nickname, The Hound. To me that was how others in his world perceived him, but I thought the reader was supposed to have better insight into his rage/ulterior motives.

I might have misinterpreted the whole Theon/Reek dynamic from Clash of Kings, but wasn’t Reek from Clash of Kings Ramsay?

Also, they have written out the Reed kids as well who have tons to do with Bran’s character … it seems as though they’re writing Osha in their place and they’ll use her “Wildling” knowledge to fill in the gaps the way the Reed kids did…

POSSIBLE SPOILER

the whole “reek” character doesnt show up until later in the story. He won’t be in the story as of now.

I agree with the sentiment about Osha’s character. Kinda makes sense for the series since the Reeds really havent had a tremendous impact as far as I’ve read (Halfway through ADWD)

Pillars of the Earth was awful, and just got ridiculous - peasants didn’t just get slaughtered like that! they had legal representation and the stupid lords are just destroying their source of income.
I’ll rephrase then, the setting was very interesting, but the story, when isolated from the setting, was subpar. IMO

STILL SOME POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

No, in Clash of Kings, there was a character, Reek, who was Theon’s prisoner at first then started helping Theon out when Bran and them escaped because he knew the area and was a pretty foul character … Jojen Reed had a dream about him during Theon’s occupation where he was standing over the bodies of two children…

The Reek you’re referring to is someone different. Ramsay actually talks about the first Reek while torturing the 2nd, later Reek

ohhhhhhh yeah i know what you’re talking about. The last chapter I read in ADWD was “new” Reek so all I could think of was him.

SPOILER

Ramsey pretended to be the Reek that Theon assumed was the assistant to the assumed dead Ramsey, then turned out to be Ramsey.

SPOILERS (getting tired of writing this)

Kanada has it right but English must be a second language for him or something.

The REAL Reek was Ramsay’s best friend since childhood. At some point, they are captured by Ser Roderick, and they switch identities, with Ramsay assuming the role of Reek. It is at this time that the REAL Reek is executed, posing as Ramsay.

Ramsay, posing as Reek, is taken captive at Winterfell. He starts “helping” Theon after Theon takes the castle, and gives him the idea to kill the two miller’s kids in place of Bran and Rickon when the search for them proves fruitless. Then he reveals himself when the Bolton men are let into Winterfell.

I dont want to beat a dead horse but I’m not that excited about the changes to the original story.

Ygritte is hot.

That’s all.

Meh. I’ve already read the books, so if HBO wants to zig where GRRM zagged, I don’t particularly mind so long as they still get to the same finish line. It’s actually a little refreshing.

I’ve been listening to the audiobooks for some time now. Great for steady state cardio sessions!

I’m interested in seeing where they take the story with them from here. With the way that they have veered off from the book I haven’t been able to think of a scenario that works. (if youve read the books you’ll know what I mean. Don’t wanna give too much away)

Yeah, that’s easily 6 months (or 6 years for me) worth of cardio per book. The audio version of ADWD is 49 hours long.

I recently had an hour commute each way and finished 2 of the books in like 3 months, it made the drive so much better.

6 years to finish? Thats perfect! You’d be done just in time for the next book to come out LOLOL

Pyat Pree is 10000x times more awesome in the series than in the books.

And there’s the creepy factor too.

Agreed. Dany is a giant festering herpes blister of a human being though. Big disappointment with the direction her character’s gone on screen.

I think they will have Jon as a hostage until they find Qorin, then they’ll make Jon kill him. I think the main reason for this deviation is to set up Jon’s relationship with Ygritte and the internal conflict that it brings about in him. All of that was internal monologue in the books, so they had to write new scenes to get his thoughts out there somehow.

I was pleased to finally hear Ygritte’s catch phrase “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”
